1. Introduction
„Corruption is as intransparent as the circumstances in which it flourishes.”
(Transparency International) Corruption is a wide-spread phenomenon and includes a big variety of different actions. Concerning these issues, the intention to define corruption seems interesting as just discovering and enlightening those intransparent circumstances as well as the following attempt to find a suitable method to measure corruption. Firstly, the main question of this essay is to find a sharp and correct definition of corruption and secondly to present several methods of measurement which also have to fully catch all the different problems of corruption.

Problematic of definition
One of the main characteristic of corruption is the fact, that it is a highly complex problem and therefore it is quite difficult to find a definition which prescindes the problem highly enough to fulfill the general standards of a good definition as well as does not miss any form of possible corruption. Especially the unclear linking-ups as well as the infinitely high possible number of protagonists within the process of corruption exacerbates an analysis which is supposed to result in an accurate definition. So one of the main issues concerning a definition of corruption is to decide wether protagonists or actions have to be declared as corruptive or not.
Furthermore it is necessary to generalize in order to
