Whether someone belongs to a religion or not, does make a difference in the way a person perceives the world. A person belonging to a religion, such as Christianity, seem to have a higher outlook on life and be happier than someone who does not believe in Christianity, or has no beliefs at all. Happiness, I believe, isn’t just something that happens or comes. Roko Belic controversially argues in his documentary film Happy that poorer countries like India are easily surpassing the U.S. on a list of the happiest nations in the world. Happy begins with a poverty-stricken rickshaw puller in an Indian slum who claims to be happy, very happy, in fact. Director Belic takes us to various countries, examining different people in various economic situations, and with the help of some “happiness science,” evaluating their level of happiness. Throughout the movie, Director Roko Belic illustrates that it isn’t what we do that makes us happy, but it is the people and the relationships in our lives that brings us happiness and everlasting joy.…

Religion responds by offering either internalization to a spiritual realm or an external hope of a better world and a better life beyond the pale of death.…

An Illinois News Bureau article World survey links religion and happiness - for some written by Diana Yates, expresses this with a study which found that individuals affiliated with religion appear happier than those lacking faith in societies that cannot provide even the most basic of needs, such as food. Finally, all people need a feeling of hope, “No matter how bad the situation is, the belief in a divine power which metes out ultimate justice can provide an almost inexhaustible source for hope and optimism from which we can draw new strength” (Nick). Religion can make a deep contribution to how we understand and see ourselves as human beings. As Tim said before, religion contributes to culture, society, music, architecture, the arts and how we view the world. One aspect that has been heavily influenced by religion is Art. The paintings that are based around religion are some of the most recognised and inspiring pieces of art in history. For example, paintings in the Sistine Chapel such as ‘The Creation of Eve’ and ‘The Creation of Adam’ by Michelangelo are among the most famous paintings in the world, which are influenced by religion. Religion discusses the ‘meaning of life’, including questions such as ‘Who am I?’, ‘Is there life after death?’, and ‘Is there a God?. Answers to these questions bring comfort, a sense of belonging and meaning to certain cultures and societies. It brings an individual self worth and happiness, and the feeling that they have something to live for. This is one of the main reasons people decide to follow a certain religion – to bring them happiness and to do right by their religion, therefore contributing positively to society.…

The second Friday of every month, my friends and I go out for dinner after we come back from our theatre meeting. We usually relax and complain about our spine breaking workload and how we wish the weekend should never end. The second Friday of February, we went to eat Chinese.
