A hero never does heroic actions just so people recognize and praise them. Many heroes are not even recognized for their actions, but that doesn’t stop them from continuing and doing the right things. For example, soldiers who are constantly fighting for our country. Not every single one of them end up on the news, or trend on twitter, but they don’t stop fighting for our country because of that. They know it is the right thing so therefore they will continue doing it, praised or not. As Tom Hanks said, “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.” Also a hero is not someone who gives up because of one obstacle. A hero is an individual who keeps going even in spite of the immense obstacle. For instance, in the poem, ‘A Man’, the poet describes a soldier who loses his arm while fighting for his country. And where the arm had been torn away a wing grew” (Line 15). The first part dwells on the thought he can only do half of everything, such as a harvest, either tune or play an accompaniment on a piano, banging on a door, and holding his

A hero is someone who cares about other people's lives than their own. Many people can call themselves a hero but don’t act like a hero. For example, in the book The Odyssey by Homer, the main character Odysseus is sailing with his men after the Trojan War, and he sees himself as a hero. On his way home from the battle a terrible storm had hit that was made by Zeus, the god of all gods, and his way home was turned into an adventure. Odysseus’ actions on the adventure makes his a very disrespectful guy, that caused his own imprisonment because he invaded Polyphemus’ cave and stayed, when he didn’t tell his men about Scylla and Charybdis when they were approaching them, and the fact that he let his men eat the sun god’s, Helios’, cattle.…

“Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with,” (unknown) Brodi Ashton wisely stated, which cannot be truer. We all have a picture that comes to mind when we think of heroes. Though these pictures vary immensely, they all have simple but meaningful qualities that truly make them a hero. They are courageous, and stand up for those who are victimized. They keep trying even when times get tough; they overcome their obstacles and utilize them for positive purposes. A hero isn’t always a strong man who stops oncoming trains or rescues young maidens, sometimes they are merely a listening ear or a comforting friend.…

Is heroism a matter of timing? Is it a person’s ability of being brave or fearless? Or is it a person being in the right place at the right time? I think this is an interesting question because, in most literature there is a person, who overcomes all odds and becomes a hero. Just because someone once did something great to depict them as a hero, does that really make them a hero? Some people would argue that if someone competes a heroic task then they are a hero. However, what if that one-act of heroism is the only act they ever carry out in life. Should that person be remembered as a hero or heroic in that moment? What actually makes up the criteria of a hero?…
