Definition Essay On Humor
Without humor, my identity would shift into a downward spiral towards a pessimistic apocalypse. Humor is the heart while the soul is the blood. My identity would not be the same if not for laughter and comedy. That is why the template number one is what I am writing about. The definition of humor, a comic, absurd, or incongruous quality causing amusement. This simple yet deep definition can be argued to be the most relevant charistic of the human race. Humor to me is what I live for, even in the hardest times I can count on humor to have my back. My family grew up on generations of comedians ranging from Chris Farley to Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph and Tina Fey, I always looked up to these artists who used jokes as paint and audiences as canvas. My Father played a huge influence in developing levity in my personality. From the time I was small, Dad was always cracking “dad jokes” and making me giggle with joy. He always taught me to not let people see my fear and use humor to mask it. Growing up was not always easy, many times I heard the phrase “girls aren’t funny” which caused annoyance to stir every time the phrase was used. Sometimes …show more content…
Seeing silver-linings through tough situations is an artform in itself that I am still trying to conquer day by day. Humor allows me to look on the bright side and keep on reaching for my goals. Not only does having a sense of humor help myself but it also helps others who I surround myself with. Helping friends when they are upset by making them laugh is one of the most rewarding things in the universe. Smiling through the tears is one of the hardest and challenging trials throughout life. My humor gives off the impression in awkward situations that I am comfortable when in reality I am stressed and nervous. Using humor lets me cope with stress in a safe and healthy way which many people can not do. In the future, I can count on my humor to expand and help me reach my

Humorists are people who are skillful in using humor for writing, talking, or acting. Their works bring laughter and elation to people. In Botton’s book, Status Anxiety, he believes that humorists not only entertain audience, but also convey important messages that cannot be said directly. Thus, he argues that humorists play a vital role in the society. In most cases, Botton’s claim is justified in that since the early nineteenth century, humorists express their thoughts about the society through humor. Some of these humorists do play important roles in the society by revealing crisis or events happening during that time period to bring awareness from the society.…

“Humor appear’s to help people’s psychological and physical well being.” It says in Peter McGraw’s essay “The Importance of Humor Research.” It has been proven that it is good for your body to react in such a way to a funny situation but the psychological portion of it is hard to understand. When someone laughs, endorphins are released from the brain and are sent throughout the body creating the feeling of pleasure. It is a healthy alternative to any negative situation, whether it be negative or awkward it can be made easier with a joke here or…

Although humor is often used to entertain or lighten one’s mood, it can also change the world, if addressed correctly. In his 2004 novel Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton argues that humorists do not only play a large role in entertainment, but they also represent the people and their true underlying feelings on series topics. I strongly agree with de Botton’s stance on the role of humor and humorists in society because they allow people to discuss and raise awareness for controversial issues without restraint. Humorists are able to give observations on society’s complications in a way that is easy for people to understand. Alain de Botton clearly states that the chief aim of humorists is not only to entertain but "to convey with impunity…

Humor has been used for many generations with an unclear origin. Over time as society progresses, the kind of humor produced adjusts to what fits the culture. One thing doesn’t change however, and that is the purpose of humor which is to provide laughter and amusement for whoever is aware of the topic. In this day and age, we live in a time of humor that is much different than the humor that took place a hundred, or even fifty years ago. Back in 2004, Alain de Botton argued in his nonfiction book Status Anxiety, how humor can be used to not only entertain but it also allows messages regarding society to be safely expressed without the danger that could occur if stated directly. For this reason, Botton believes they play a key role in society.…

Sarah states that laughter is beneficial to health because it relieves stress and helps one socially. Information from another article Laughter is the Best Medicine concurs with what is being said. She gives physical and mental effects of laughter such as decreased risk of heart attack, increase pain tolerance, increased intelligence, production of antibodies and protective cells that fight off disease and infections.
