Definition Essay On What Is A Hero
What is a hero? When confronted with this question, many people would answer with “Superman” or “Batman”. A hero isn’t always someone who wears a cape. A hero is someone who can believe in themselves; they are both selfless and courageous to help the ones in need. Even though it is not their responsibility, a hero will save the day because they care about the task at hand.

When a hero has come upon a frightening situation, they stay brave and courageous. Even when soldiers are jumping out of an airplane to fight a war where many of their friends have died. The soldiers know they could die as well, and despite knowing that they are jumping to almost certain death, they still fight because they know that they are fighting to save their loved

A great poet once said “We grew up cheering for the underdog because we see ourselves in them” (Shane Koyczan To This Day). When you think of a hero what do you think of ? Is it a guy in a cape, or a mom who works three jobs to support her struggling family? When you read that comic book where hero starts as a regular person. The definition of a hero is a relatively simple one; a hero is someone who positively impacts others through their actions and accomplishments. While we all have different views on who exactly we see as a hero, there are certain individuals, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln, who have undeniably changed the world and fit this definition. One important quality of heroism is stepping out from their comfort zone to help others in need, as they put aside their own demands. Often times a hero has a choice whether to go and help others or focus on themselves and pay attention to their only needs, but the fact that they put down their focus on themselves to help another shows how a true hero can be distinguished from amongst the crowd. For instance, an example of this quality can be found in the story Love Triumphs: 6 Year Old Becomes a Hero to Band of Toddlers, Rescuers by Ellen Barry. In this story, a little 6 year old boy named Deamonte Love takes on the responsibility of taking care of several other children, including his baby brother and cousins when they all were separated from their parents due to Hurricane Katrina. Deamonte “promised he’d take care of his brother” after seeing “his mother cry when he was loaded onto the helicopter” along with the other children to be taken to safety(SB 20). Even if Deamonte was scared, he took the lead role in directing and watching over the children, putting his focus only on the children,…
