Religion can have many definitions because everyone has a different perspective of what religion. If it is real or not depends on what the individual believes. Nearly all humans believe that religion is the just the belief in a higher being that will save humanity but is religion just that? Religion can give us purpose, beliefs and values. Religion can be defined as by the Australian High court as “a complex of beliefs and practices which point to a set of values and an understanding of the meaning of existence” (The Australian Collaboration, 2012). Religion has created many communities that help each other and promote moral issues that need to be dealt with. The promotion of religious moral issues has been beneficial to humans since people are working together to combat problems such as climate change and poverty. The communities that religions have helped people that have been going through dreadful times. Religions have helped them through their beliefs and practices. The beliefs also bring us closer together through the diverse practices the religion offers, the religion brings the whole family, town and the world together to celebrate their beliefs. Religion is one of the most important things that has happened to this world as it has brought many countless and valuable things to the human race. Religion is more than just a complex of beliefs and practices which point to a set of values and an understanding of the meaning of existence is has brought many of us the meaning of life, peace and serenity. Ninian Smart’s ritual/practices, ethical and social dimensions have defined what religion is and why it is beneficial to whole human race and it does not matter if you are religious or not.
