Definition Essay: Why Do People Cheat?
Why do people cheat, I believe people cheat because they don’t feel a connection anymore to their relationship. They have lost the feel of what was once there and started looking for that feeling in other place versus in their relationship. The most common place for cheating to occur is at the workplace according to ABC news. Which is really true, think about it if you are such a “workaholic” the closest person your going to work with is that female or male employee , So you build a connection with that person because they’re the one your spending the most time with. Which also means your relationship at home is suffering because you don’t have that connection of spending time together with the person your in a relationship with.

Commitment is it a feeling or an obligation ? Commitment is a big part of relationships, commitment is what motivates people to stay and keep going even when it’s difficult. There’s a quote that says “Sometimes a good relationship ends not due to the lack of love but because of the lack of dedication and commitment.” This quote says a lot. This quote explains how even when that relationship have love

Men want more sex (44 percent), more fulfilling sex (38 percent) and variety (40 percent), these results closely resemble the 2006 survey on monogamy.
This next comment is someone that randomly took this survey and out why they cheat. “Mostly I’ve cheated because of the excitement,” writes a 38-year-old man who took the survey. “I like variety and a more wild sex life than I’ve been able to enjoy with relationship partners.”. This study also showed how women and why they cheat . They say women’s motives range from the need for more emotional attention (40 percent) to being reassured of their desirability (33 percent) or falling in love with someone else (20

“Monogamy isn’t realistic” (Trainwreck) is a recurring theme in Aziz Ansari’s Modern Romance. Ansari’s argument is that with the ever growing influence of technology in modern relationships/dating it is ridiculous to expect you and/or your partner to remain monogamous. Here enters the idea of monogamish relationships; “the couple is deeply committed to each other, but there is room for outside sexual activity” (Ansari 228). Relationships based on trust that leave room for the natural need for sexual variety allow individuals to meet both their emotional and physical needs without fear of backlash from their partner.…

As previously stated, humanist theory suggests that human’s are in control of their own future, destiny, fate, etc. Humans maintain free will so actions such as cheating are by their own fault and they are responsible for actions committed; therefore this is most likely a humanist view (“Humanist Psychology”).…

In the Brave New World people openly have sex with news partners every week, every day or multiple times a day. In the Brave New World the more sex you have the higher people view you. Our society had been evolving to something more and more like this society. A few decades ago we where a lot more closed off in sex. It was something that lots of people thought was for marriage. People use to not live together until they are married. In a recent study it showed that now only 3 percent of people in the united states waite to have sex until marriage (waiting til marriage). Another study showed that “70 percent of married women have cheated on their partners; a 1993 follow-up study found that 72 percent of married men have as well according to” (American Physiological association). The numbers from the cheating study have slightly gone up as the years go on. We are like the Brave New World as in sex is becoming more and more casual. For lots of people it is no longer for the life long one person, instead they have sex with a number of people just like in Brave New…

A relationship is meant for two people only, but some can’t seem to count. In today’s society, there are more people being unfaithful to their mate everyday as if they were never committed to them, and that is just selfish. Cheating does not only affect someone emotionally, but also physically. The pain after a breakup from cheating can make a person have a negative outlook about being in a committed relationship, and this can also stop them from being happy with someone who can not only be a good candidate for them, but also faithful and loyal to them. When I felt like cheating, I would always talk with my dad. He always said, “If you are unhappy, leave that person completely alone, done cheat on them”. (B. Robinson) He was…

Cheating damages the trust in the relationship the most. Trust is the foundation to any relationship and once that rust is broken, it is hard to rebuild that trust again. After your partner finds out about your infidelity, he or she will go through an endless cycle of emotions. One day he or she will blame you and the next day blame themselves. Cheating also damages a person's self-esteem. Your partner will start to question his or her…

Unfortunately, cheating in adolescent years is often simply because “everybody does it.” While this is an actual attitude and not justification, this type of thinking brings on complacency and laziness. One problem with this attitude is that it is questionable whether most people do these things. Another problem is that if some or most people do these things, this does not mean people ought to do them (Thiroux, J, Krasemann, K. 2012).…

Cheating is quite common and the reasons are multiple. For this critical thinking paper, the topic I choose is Infidelity. I read an article called "Psychology of Infidelity: Why men and women cheat" by John Benson. This article was broken down into a few parts.Dr. Ley stated that men and women have a different outlook on cheating. A women tends to cheat more along the lines of a romance novel where she feels a lot of intimate attention and excitement. Men on the other hand cheat to get away. They are more likely to have one night stands then a long term secret relationship. They tend to want someone younger and want to feel that kind of escape. This article also talked a lot about how personality traits can be tied into infidelity. David Schmidt, psychologist at Bradley University, told Jay Dixit of Psychology Today, there are five personality factors and each has a different likelihood to cheat. Extroversion was the first trait. Extroverts are driven by sexual desires and seek pleasure. They tend to look for situations to satisfy their needs. Emotional Stability was another trait. People who are emotionally stable are less likely to wander off and cheat on their spouse. The third one was openness. Those who are open to trying new things might be more likely to cheat. Also, people who disregard other people's feelings and opinions might also be more likely to become unfaithful. The last one was conscientiousness. Those who struggle to control impulses and whose morals might not be structured usually are cheaters. This article gives you examples of what happens once an affair is out on the open. The person that cheated is often left feeling guilty and the person cheated on feels betrayal, anger and sadness. Surviving infidelity was the last topic in the article. Most relationships that give it another try after finding out that their partner was unfaithful, don't work out. There's always that lack of trust there. The relationships that do work out usually go…

    * Buss and Shackelford (1997) examined mate-retention tactics in married couples. They studied 214 individuals and found that, compared to women; men reported a significantly higher use of debasement (giving into her every wish) and intra-sexual threats (threating to beat up the other man). Women on the other hand, reported a greater use of verbal possession signals (indicating to other women that he is taken) and threats of punishing infidelity (threating to leave him is he is unfaithful).…

Clearly, cheating has not got anyone anywhere in life. There are always consequences when cheating. Some people may put it in their heads that it's allowable, when in reality, not one significant achievement comes from it. Many will disagree, but I completely agree that cheating is unacceptable. You'll never get away with what you think you will, whether it's cheating on a test, in a relationship, or during a sports…

Conventionally, men have been thought of as the ones in pursuit of casual sex relationships. But as women are now receiving higher degrees and seeking more prestige in the work force, it has come to be believed by some that women are equally responsible for hookup culture. It is without a doubt that women participate in casual sex, but is this what they really desire? All signs point toward women desiring commitment, love, or romance.…
