Defining Credibility and integrity as it applies to academic and essay construction
Credibility in academics and essay construction is all about being truthful about where you get the information that you will use in your essays. Making sure that you are the one that is doing the work assigned not by having someone doing it for you. If you chose to do this you will be plagiarizing the work that your instruction has put the trust in you to complete the assignment at hand. In the end you want to also be able to have your instructors trust that you are always using the most credible sources out there. The question here is how to define credibility is the quality of being believable or worthy of trust.
While you are in the academic setting you will find yourself having to write different papers for all the classes you will be taking with in college. Students will need to know the proper ways to be completely credible with the sources that they will use. This will help them in creating an essay that an instructor will find that it is the students work. One of the places that you would want to find your information is in the library. The library is where you will find the best information that you could use for the essay that you will be writing. In print and also in digital sources. In the library you will find that most of your sources will be the best to use and most likely will not have to doubt that credibility of where you are getting your information. The internet is also another place you will be able to find different thing that you would also be able to use in your essays. A student would have to be careful that you did not get information for somewhere that is not going to be truthful and taking out of context. A person can get the wrong information and turn it into something that is not the truth. As you get your information you want it to be in your own words but you have to keep it where the truth is in the words that

In order to determine if a source is reliable, you should consider where the information originated, research the author, and evaluate all sources. Oftentimes, common sense and knowledge of a particular subject matter can be vital in deciding whether or not a source is reliable and uncovering author bias. Does the information seem objective? Is it contradictory or inconsistent? Does the writer have an obvious agenda? Is there more emotion in the writing than facts? These are questions to ask when determining bias. Also, check to see if the author can substantiate his/her claims with evidence.…

Most of the students who are in college probably would have the same experience, using the computer in the college’s lab or library to research sources from outside of their college and request online tutoring from inside of the college. It’s too simple and costless for us to use these services to support our studying. Therefore, we get adapted to this convenience, then ignore that the college already paid a large bunch of money to subscribe the journals and hire the tutors. In fact, lectures, tutoring, library services, lab services, most of these unique supports only provided by the colleges are actually contributing in nurturing intellectuals by means of creating a convenient environment for the intellectuals to focus on their research. “Just following any one of the 1,651 road signs and pop your head inside.” (Addison, 212). Liz Addison uses her experience in the college to argue that the requirement to have college’s lectures sometime is as simple as a walk-in. So what happen if a person has to do the academic research out of college? She/ He probably has to spend tons of money and time in obtaining substitutes of college’s supports, such as subscribing journal, renting the lab and requesting help from other professors. Even though these substitutes aren’t as complete and…

In Joseph M. Williams and Lawrence McEnerney’s Writing in College, Williams and McEnerney discuss the shift from high school writing to college writing where argument, interpretation of expectations, and learning how to make a “good” point in a paper are key to successfully satisfying the instructor’s assignment. Arguments should be convincing, with evidence to support their reasons, and to have counters answering objections and other questions that may go against its favor. Williams and McEnerney write, “-universities hold as their highest value not just the pursuit of new knowledge and better understanding, but the sharing of that knowledge…whatever it is we think, it is never the entire truth. The library website has a tab on “Bibliographies, Citations, and Academic Honesty.” The website tab provides different kinds of information including: OWL examples of citations, how to avoid plagiarism, how to create and evaluate different sources/citations, and academic honesty. Also by doing multiple of these “how to cite correctly in MLA and APA” exercises really helped me learned different scenarios of how to properly cite an article.…

In all of the papers that I had written before this class, I just stated facts. I have learned that in order to truly have a strong argument, every claim that you are making has to be debatable so that people can have an opposing view on your topic but can then be convinced by the textual evidence that supports your claim. I have learned that textual evidence plays a much bigger role in an essay than I had previously thought. Prior to college, I would put very little textual evidence in my essays to support the claims that I was making. Now, I know that I should include at least one example of textual evidence for every claim that I am making because there is no better way to support an argument than with words that come right from the…
