Is there a place that you go to just to think or feel relaxed? Everyone has a place like that and the Delaware River is that place for me. When I first moved to Pennsylvania seven years ago, I loved that I was going to live near a river. I had never lived so close to any body of water before. After about one year of living in Easton, Pennsylvania, my mom and I had decided to have a picnic every year alongside the Delaware River. We would sit on the grass with the sun warming our faces and just watch the water in the river flow until it fell down the waterfall. The Delaware River provides a place for me to think and it’s also a great place to go if you want to relax.
One of the things I love about the Delaware …show more content…
River is all the sounds I hear when I go there. The water booms when it falls down the water fall. As the water tumbles down the waterfall, it pounds the rocks below. After it rains, I like to go to the Delaware to watch the fast current and hear the water roaring. Sometimes, when the weather is calm and the current is slow, you can hear the fishes jumping out of the water and plopping back in. The sound of the water bouncing back off the rocks near the sides of the river is very soothing to me. I also love to hear the birds during spring and summer; it’s almost like the birds sing songs to me.
Another wonderful thing about the Delaware is that there are a variety of things to do when you go there.
One of the many activities available is tubing. To tube, you get on a round raft type of object and you sit in the middle of it and ride down the river. You can see all the beautiful things around you, such as the trees, the little islands and the wildlife on the sides of the river. The trees are a brilliant green all summer and in spring they bloom with lovely white and pink colors. In autumn, they turn a bright red, yellow, and orange, lighting up the river. Some islands look eerie in winter because it is hard to see through all the branches and trees, giving the island a dark, spooky look. Other islands look warm and inviting, beckoning you in with their luscious branches full of different colored leaves. The wildlife looks beautiful, sometimes family of deer are visible; you can usually see one or two yearlings with their mother. Other times you can see chunky little groundhogs, usually during spring time. To see the groundhogs, you have to pay attention minutely because they are usually undistinguished among all the trees and the ground. Kayaking and canoeing are other options, which are both just as entertaining as tubing except they are more serene. You can put your hands in the river and sometimes feel the scaly fish rub up against your hand.
The final activity that is available is rafting. You can take your family out on the river - but not on any extremely
rocky parts - and you can go and raft while observing everything around you. All these activities give people the opportunity to look at the current of the water and the color. Sometimes it is clear, and other times, after it rains, the water is murky. The activities are one of the best things about the Delaware River.
The Delaware River is a captivating and enchanting sight. When I go to the river, I like to stand on the overlook and absorb everything around me. The overlook is right above the waterfall, so I have a perfect view of the water rushing to get to the bottom. Across the river there is an old set of rusted train tracks that are no longer used. Underneath the rusting train tracks is a narrow wooden bridge for people to walk over leading to stairs that go down into the river. Underneath the bridge, in the water, there seems to be a tunnel but I can’t tell for sure. On the other side of the undersized bridge are benches dispersed throughout the area for people to sit on. They are almost completely concealed by all the full, beautiful green trees. Behind the benches, there is a long and narrow bike path for people to either ride their bikes or walk on. Most of the time at the river, fishermen are visible as they fish. They are always wearing big black rubbery boots that are knee high. Behind where I’m standing there is a minuscule park where children and adults can play in. The best part is watching the water float to the waterfall and fall over as smoothly as oil would.
The Delaware River is my place to go when I want to relax. The sights of the fishermen and the fishes are awesome to observe. Having so many different activities to do while I’m there is extremely enjoyable. I love listening to the birds chirping and singing their songs. Sitting or lying on the benches and just closing my eyes while listening to all the different sounds is enthralling to me. The Delaware River is important to me because without it, I wouldn’t have my own little mini vacation spot.
