August 26th, 2013 Nikki Butler Demonstrative Communication Paper Communication is “a process by which information is exchanged between individuals thorough a common system of symbols, signs or behavior (Merriam-Webster, 2013). Communication is used in several ways such as verbal, written, sign language, and visual. This paper will discuss some of the effective and ineffective ways of demonstrative communication, the positive, and negative for the sender and the receiver and how demonstrative communication involves listening and responding.
Demonstrative Communication
When people use their facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice, they are using a form of demonstrative communication. Demonstrative Communication is used when someone fails to verbally communicate. Facial expressions are one of the first forms of demonstrative communication a person will use if they do not want to speak. Facial expressions are also ways to communicate a person’s feelings to someone without even speaking.
Facial Expression/Body Language
One example of a facial expression is when someone shows emotions such as smiling and laughing. This type of communication happens when someone is feeling happy or exciting about something that has happen or something that will to happen. The next form of demonstrative communication is using body language. Body language can play a major part in showing ones feelings and emotions toward someone. The way a person uses his or her body language can have an effect on one’s personal relationships as well as ones social relationships. An example of using body language to communicate is someone having direct eye contact with someone. Direct eye contact shows that a person is honest and transparent with the person who is speaking.
