We can all imagine the stress and hardship that military families go through while their loved one is deployed. The daily fear of the unknown can leave many spouses and children with enormous feelings of stress and anxiety. Two million children under the age of 18 have an active duty parent, and 500,000 of those are under the age of 6. Young children can feel the same anxiety, depression, stress and aggression that older children and adults experience after living with multiple deployments, long separations, and often tense and awkward reunions with parents returning from war. Gregg Zoroya with USA Today states in his article about military divorce rate that one of the reasons for the high divorce rate is the withdrawal of troops from combat zones. The service member and families aren’t used to living together anymore and that puts a lot of stress on families trying to adjust life from deployment and separation to living together again and trying to adjust to life after deployment which comes with a lot of traumatic baggage that the soldier brings home, as well as the family who dealt with life at home in their own way. The long separations from each other can make life together difficult. Historically, however little emphasis has been put on deployments and divorce. During the Vietnam war many young single soldiers went to war and the military didn’t have to worry about the effect the war would have on marriages and family life in general. But they also share a very strong bond. The constant moving helps to build a strong bond between siblings, they get to experience and travel the world together. They make friends easily because they always the new kid at the school. They value life different because of the reality they face every time their parent deploys. The military community is very supportive of each other and often friends become family. The strength of these families is amazing and military and civilians need to ensure the well being of these strong Men and Women the ones who serve on the front and the ones that serve at home holding the family’s
