The traditional view of science and scientific research has changed over time, and science is continuing to evolve at degrees unimaginable. One of the newer sciences the world recently has been introduced to is Kinesiology, the study of the movement of the body. A concrete detail to recall is the difference between Kinesiology and its sub-division, Physical Activity. Since Kinesiology involves movement, most people misapprehend Kinesiology to be the study of physical activity. However, all physical activity is movement, but not to all movement is physical activity (Hoffman 2013). This paper is going to relate the significance of a physical activity I did in my life as well as the physical activity …show more content…
As a student from elementary school until high school, I participated in competitive team and individual sports and none of the countless experiences I had were similar. Every win or loss was a milestone for me and my teammates because we all had different perspective in playing and different perceptions about the outcomes of our games. To be more specific, my high school soccer team was one of the worst soccer teams in all of Bakersfield. Our team had a long losing streak and instead of learning from our mistakes, every teammate was blaming another teammate about making bad decisions and being a horrible soccer player. Our perception about being a successful team consisted of scoring as many goals as possible and not focusing on our defense. As a result, we lost nearly all our games. When we had a bad perspective of understanding the game, the outcomes consisted of having a horrible win-loss ratio. Additionally, we had a poor perception about out duties as teammates, this resulted in us having bad behaviors amongst us and our opponents. Now as I reflect upon our decisions and our roles, if we were to focus on being more optimistic and positive, we could have won several games and possibly league …show more content…
However, the subject of physical education is not prioritized by most educators. According to recent research and evaluation done by educators and their perceptions of physical education teachers, “PE remains a marginalized subject with low priority” (Norris, Mars, et al., 2017). If there is not a prioritized and formal education in an area we are exposed to on a daily basis, it is difficult to construct the relation between perception and behavior for most individuals. To clarify, if physical education instructors are not teaching students the importance of physical activity, when those students become adults they are highly likely to suffer from health issues due to their lack of inactivity. According to a health data collection institute, “Today, 2.1 billion people – nearly 30% of the world’s population – are either obese or overweight” (Murray and Ng). These statistics are concrete details in showing the world’s perception of physical activity and how inactivity has resulted in high obesity
