There are numerous factors that can describe whether a change is a positive or negative experience for example deaths are negative because you have lost some one you love or care for, births are positive because you have brought a new life into the world that brings a lot of responsibility to a person. Growing up is a positive because you become independent and experience new things. All these examples are followed by the support of family or friends or colleagues from work although you are growing up and learning to be independent your not doing it alone your surrounded by friends
and family who support you through out and there for you when needed
We have various ways to enhance a persons capacity to manage change we do this by offering a person-centred support i.e. making sure the customer is involved/ supported to take control, communicating with the individual using their preferred method, consistency of support (all involved are working in the same way to avoid causing confusion or uncertainty for individual) ensuring any information they are given is up-to-date, monitoring of any possible change in behaviour, basically ensuring they feel included & empowered in the process, ask the individual how best they feel they can be supported, support planning, allocating who is responsible for what, liaising with family & friends if appropriate (with customer's consent)
If I was unsure and needed to ask for advice, support, guidance I would go and speak to my manager, colleagues other professionals and those experienced in the area I am supporting the customer with e.g. moving home, bereavement, break-up of a relationship, starting college, new job this will give me a fresh perspective on things and may even offer us an approach we had not thought of prior to this
We would evaluate the support offered by reviewing all the information whether positive or negative and sit down with all involved and ask for there feedback on areas that work and areas that they feel could be improved, this also offers the customer a chance to identify all aspects of the change they experience and how the support offered has helped or hindered their progress
