When I got to RCR I thought that I was going to be surrounded by psychopaths everyday but when I got here I realized that the girls here are a lot healthier than a lot of the people that I was around at home. A change for the better, to become a Marine. I will not only have the opportunity to get a degree for free but also be able to travel the world and explore. Now that will be one exciting story to write about in the future. I will be able to make a change, be somebody. Be somebody unique, a person who is completely different than all the rest of the world. Finally all the sacrifices I have made will pay off. The reward for all the late nights of work and dedication to school will have a meaning. I am thankful for the school's system of preparing students to long nights without sleep and having them work with sleep deprivation. This has prepared me to be able to withstand long nights and control my mind. I tell myself every time I get sleepy that it's all in my head, it's just a feeling and it’ll go away. I loath school with a passion, but i yet indeed love it with all my…

“Everything will change…” was practically the only thing I could think of being a 13 year old girl with a firm friendship with her 16 year old sister. The summer of 2006 was when I discovered my mother was packing up her things and moving to Athens to work on her PhD in Psychology at the University of Georgia, while my 3 brothers, younger sister and I would be living at home with my dad. It did not bother me much at all when I found out my mom was moving for a temporary time to further her education, considering my parents are still married and she would only be living up there for two years. We would also get to visit her on the weekend, and she would also visit us on the weekends. Plus my mom and I do not get along well, so I figured I needed a break from her. On the other hand, I did care she was taking my big sister Amanda with her.…

First, I hope to create many long-lasting friendships within the program and establish a sense of camaraderie between everyone I meet. Through bonding and experiencing the program together, I predict that the other members and I will be transformed into a second family. In addition, I hope that this program will provide me with another level of community service by traveling and serving a multitude of communities around the globe. Since I have attended NC State, I have found that volunteering and helping people at school has enriched me even more as a student. After my first semester at NC State, I volunteered over twenty hours to various clubs and activities while maintaining a rigorous class schedule. I learned how volunteering is a way for me to help those in my community, and I've found that these people help me as well. They allow me to create new experiences and make new friends with people who also have a passion for serving others. The program will help me to gain developed leadership skills, which will help create new opportunities throughout my life. I predict the program will assist me in becoming an experienced leader and develop the necessary qualities to become a great…

For years, I took from my community. I grew up in a welcoming place where I had ample opportunity to succeed. However, in recent years, I have begun promoting this same excellence and equal opportunity to both my own community and the rest of the nation. I have also begun contributing back to the community in a way that will foster the same enjoyment for education that I have. In college, I plan to do the same on a much grander scale.…

Everything was new: new friends, town, and school. That was when the uncomfortable feeling began to set in, and I began to retreat to a self I did not know. While I thought the feeling were just temporary, due to the unfamiliar surroundings, the feeling lasted a whole lot longer than I imagined. I was accustomed to being surrounded by everyone who not only knew me, but also knew me as being a bubbly, aspiring people person. I guess I never realized how much changing one thing in my life could have such a…

I have transferred to a different school each year since I was a freshman. Leading up to the first time my parents announced we were moving, during the end of my eighth grade year, I had started to inwardly question the act of personal change, and how it can affect one’s mind. This is the time where I had a plethora of internal conflict relating to one’s change and growth as a person. Recognizing that my act of change was being separated from my small yet important group of friends, I remember standing in the quad one day, alone, looking at everyone around me and realizing that they've been through change. Whether it was more or less than my amount of personal change it doesn’t matter, because there is no true way to literally measure one’s…

Change can be difficult part of a person’s life, oftentimes quite harrowing. Some may find change to be a good thing. I, on the other hand, find it to be more than former. This great change in my life was when my family was forced to move to a new city when I was fourteen. Not only, was I facing a great change, but it would be a change that would affect me for the rest of my life. When I found out that we were moving, I was frightened. I was going to lose all of my friends. I was going to have to start over. That was scary. Being the new kid in school is awful and upsetting, and I was not looking forward to that at all. Already being a shy person who has trouble connecting with new people, being forced to start at a new school was absolutely terrifying.…

What I hope to gain from this program is the knowledge and materials I need in order to become closer to reaching my dreams and goals in life. My goal in life is to help people process their difficulties which occur in their lives. I want to help people so that they can supersede the darkness of pain and emotional challenges in the same way that I grew and evolved from the pain I had after my father’s death. I want to help people cope with stressful situations like I had. I also hope to gain the knowledge and or feel for what college life is like so that I know for sure what to expect and can embrace that new culture for myself.…
