my ears. The screeching voices of teenage girls as a man struts into the dance room while we are in the process of replacing the clothes on our bodies sound like birds singing in a crisp spring morning. The sound of screeching girls is a sound I just cannot live without. To tell the truth, I adore the war that occurs between girls who are supposed to be there to support each other like a bra. When someone is elected an officer position you wanted, creates a wall as big and bold as the wall Trump wants to build blocking off the Mexicans from robbing Americans from the wonderful job opportunity of flipping burgers and asking, “Would you like fries with that?” A wall might help. My favorite memory of Orchesis: “ I am a four year member. I have been waiting for this moment.”
“I have too so why is it fair that you get to be in the picture and it is ok to leave me, a four year member also, out of the picture. Why can’t we take it after school?”
“I don’t want to do it then.”
“Don’t want to or can’t”
“Don’t want to.”
“Don’t want to.”
“Nope.”
“Well, that is a perfectly valid reason why we should leave people out of a photo because you do not want to take a picture when everyone is available, but because you are a four year member, as long as you are in the picture it is fine because well you know, you are a four year member. That makes sense.”
“Yup.” It perfectly explains the feeling of how gum feels jammed between the crevices of someone's new white converse. Indescribable, uncontainable love. The selflessness just overflows like a boiling pot of water. I live for the days when I receive the wonderful gift of the death glare from the choreographer that does not know the choreography of her own dance. The cheap shots that are fired between the girls starts a new war every time the trigger is pulled. The high road ceases to exist in most situations. Another fundamental example is the shade is thrown at other dance companies that is darker than the darkness in the middle of a forest at night; however, the music is played from the dreadful show is played on repeat. One thing that makes complete sense, is the way that sparkles are criticized yet we order clothes, with sparkles. Sometimes the world makes sense like that. Orchesis is just a loving family that is shown by the way that we talk about other people. After participating in a dance show with other schools, my favorite part of the next day in class is hearing the opinions of the girls the next day babbling on about the monstrosity they experienced the previous night. The support given between us and our fellow dance companies is as strong as the mountains. Our inspiration for our choreography is to be the complete opposite of dances we observe, yet the choreography from the disgraceful dance show is constantly being danced in the sauna of the dance room. Not forgetting about the level headedness of most of the girls. 98 percent of the girls on Orchesis are just level headed teenage girls that know that it takes work to succeed in the world. They know that they need to work on various techniques and are not the definition of perfect. It is just an experience that humbles you and helps you realize the world is not a perfect place. Most of the girls on Orchesis know that they are not models for Project Runway or dancers on Broadway. The way that many of the girls own up to their mistakes is so beautiful that everyone should take a lesson from them. We are models to little girls. We show that when things get hard in life you do not need to go crying to your mom to step in and save the day like Superwoman. As you can tell, Orchesis is a wonderful place.
Almost like Wonderland and we are all named Alice. It is a place where you can go to relieve stress by simply creating more stress. It is only normal to learn seven, five minute dances and a fourteen minute dance on top of homework, work, and a social life. Every high schooler should be able to do it without a mental breakdown. Tears are not allowed in orchesis because they show the weaknesses that orchesis girls do not have ingrained in them. The wonderful life of an Orchesis member is always shown through the bond that is created between the girls. The way that we all love to do things for the good of others not for ourselves. Orchesis is a place where you go to relax, revive and rejuvenate. Almost like a
spa.
