I attended a Cubs game back in the 2000’s; with a few of my childhood friends. As we walked up to the massive brick building, I could feel the atmosphere of excitement and the history of all the failures that it contained inside. The people standing around the green entrance gates waiting for the ticket readers to let them. I could hear the chatter of people close by as they talked about their day like this was not a big deal for them. I felt differently about it as this was not a regular event for me.
Once I entered the Old Ivy-covered ballpark I could instantly smell butter covered popcorn and Budweiser spilled on the concrete ground. Still holding my ticket stub for the bleacher …show more content…
The response was immediate and stout! “RIGHT FIELD SUCKS, RIGHT FIELD SUCKS.” This went on throughout the game. The excitement of a ball hitting the bat snaps me back to the game as I quickly realize that the red laced leather ball has been hit with a sense of urgency toward my direction. People are scrambling for positon to grab the round souvenir. It screams faster and faster towards us , landing in a sea of raised hands waving up and down, back and forth. A young man wearing a Cubs jersey with the name Sosa on the back comes up victorious with a look of determination. As the seventh inning stretch comes, they do a rendition of “ Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. My heart grew with excitement but was quickly disappointed by the fact that the speakers only played on TV. You only hear the sound of the crowd drowned out by indistinct noises of mostly intoxicated cheers and
