Thanks to the increasing knowledge of medical technology, genetically superior superhumans are closer than ever. The exciting and terrifying stories of science fiction could soon come to life, but an ethical debate has arisen. The term designer baby refers to a baby created with a process called preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). This genetically screens embryos created with in vitro fertilization for characteristics like sex, hair color, and disability. The future of this technology however, is aiming for parents to be able to choose traits like superior intelligence and athleticism for their child.
