The star-crossed lovers believe they are destined to be together, but their family rivalries prevent them from being with one another. However, unlike Hermia and Lysander’s merry tale, Romeo and Juliet’s story has a melancholy ending, with the Princes scolding the families saying “See what a scourge is laid your hate, That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love” (5:3:292-293). If the families had not prevented romeo and juliet from being together the teens would not have killed themselves. The whole issue could have been prevented, if the families perspectives on each other was not so childish. The reasoning for their hatred is never explained making the fighting even more pointless. Others believe that the opinions of others do matter. With the love the couples have for each other to only be infatuation. However, Egeus wants his daughter to marry a man who was with Helena. He also would’ve had his daughter killed because it was “...the ancient privilege of Athens…” (1:1:41). If Theseus did not see how absurd Egeus’s request was Hermia would have died. The play would have been a tragedy. Others also believe that Romeo and Juliet’s death was based merrily on infatuation. Even if that is so, the parents disapproval drove them to that point. Their opinions of each other caused the teens to rebel and according to Misty Harris in “If Romeo and Juliet Had Cell Phones” the teens “would’ve gotten tired of each other” if only they had talked more and possibly dated. Since that is how most teen relationships go and they would have been alive. Though that did not happen because of their parents opinions on the relationship. Today the scenarios would not be the exact same, but parents should at least take into consideration what the child
