Detective Conan Important Episode List
Detective Conan Important Episode List
For the sake of those who might want to get into or try to convince a friend to get into Detective Conan for the story but find the insanely high episode count and history of nearly 2 decades daunting, I've compiled a list of episodes that are actually important as well as listed the reasons I believe them to be important (so you can make your own judgements as you go as to whether you yourself really think you should have to watch them or not). There are tons of great "normal" cases throughout the series that naturally are left out, which are really the original point of the series, but if you just want to get around all of that and watch the series for just the overall story and characters, this might prove useful for that. Of course, there are still a ton of episodes, but cutting a good two-thirds of the series out should ease the pain of entry a bit. Now, I realize many others in the past have made feeble attempts at something similar, but I'm obviously more awesome than them. I plan to keep this reference updated periodically as the series progresses.

An updated note on more recent episodes: Since the series started, and especially in the last couple years, Aoyama has gotten infinitely better at weaving the story into the individual, unrelated cases. These days basically every case contains at least a bit of plot advancement, so plot advancement has become a lot more gradual and stretched out rather than happening in chunks scattered here and there. As a result, the more recent episodes pretty much all have some level of importance, except for anime originals, of course. Although, and I've stated as much before in the comments, as this list is about easing the barrier of entry, it is more the early episodes that really matter for trimming the fat. As you get closer and closer to completely caught up, it doesn't really matter all that much anymore anyway. In short, this list starts to lose meaning the further you get in

The second borough that is involved many times in my book is the Bronx. The main protagonists, Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, both very commonly visit the Bronx because their New York Detective Department is based there. The New York Detective Department has a relatively tremendous lobby with a vast amount of police workers walking all over the place. Another important place in the Detective Department is the room where they have meetings with the Mayor of New York and the chief of the New York Police Department, Chief Cates. It’s a very bright and bland room with basically a long rounded wooden desk inside. There is usually an off-setting mood in the room but it is very unnoticeable compared to the positivity and seriousness of our main…

My most favorite is the First 48 this show follows homicide detectives in real life investigations. The main idea behind naming the show First 48 is, after the first forty eight hours the chances of solving a murder are cut in half. First 48 focuses on the perpetrator of the crime, witnesses, the discovery of the bodies as it happens, and with real footage. With First 48 unfortunately not all the cases get solved by the end of the show. The show goes to the top police departments in the United States, such as Miami, Birmingham, Vegas, and Memphis just to name a few. The detectives show you how the case develops as the hours tick down. At the bottom of the screen the views are notified with a clock counting down. You get to see the arrest and the interrogation of the perpetrator as it happens. They also show the viewer interviews as they happen with the witness, families, and friends of the victim. Most of the crime on First 48 happens in bad neighborhoods, so sometimes the detectives run into obstacles because the witnesses are scared for their life. Occasionally in better neighborhoods witnesses are more willing to help detectives, and the case gets solved quickly. The viewer gets to see the pain, anger and…

I liked the Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee for the fact that it was a mystery novel. Mysteries, crime solving, problem solving, and clues interest me. I like figuring out the clues and the buildup of suspense leading to the conclusion and outcome at the end. The three cases were interesting because of the differences in each. Even though they…

I feel the most interesting week was the Phase 3 discussions. I think the Tank case was the most interesting to me, with all the responses and the issues that each state has regarding the charge of robbery. It amazed me how some of us felt that it was robbery, while others felt that John sort of jumped the gun with claiming robbery based on appearance only.…

Another example of how effective ending each episode with an overall message is, in the last scene in the episode, The Bicycle Thief. The episode begins with a question for all the fathers of the show: What is the key to being a great dad? Most of them gave simple answers such as: be your kid’s buddy or give them the freedom to be whatever they want to be, all except Jay. Jay could not think of an answer to say and even after a few seconds to think about it he still could not come up with anything. Later in the episode, Gloria asked Jay to help Manny fix the fan in his room, so they can get some bonding time. As they worked, Manny talked about how excited he was for his weekend with his father at Disney World and how great his father was, much…

Steven Johnson presented the argument that watching certain TV shows can make a person more intelligent. According to the author, shows have only become more complex with different story arcs, threading, and social interactions amongst characters. He argues that certain types of narrative weaving cause a person to actually focus on what is happening and notice the details within the show. To support his argument, Johnson discusses the Sleeper Curve, which is found in certain television shows that cause a person to have to pay attention to things below the surface, such as tracking character relations and making inferences. The article presented comparisons between old and modern television shows, as well as clarifying that “bad” shows can also…
