Diabetes is the worldwide fastest increasing chronic disease. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians have very high levels of diabetes. According to Australian Indigenous health info net (2016), ATSI Australians have three times more likely to have diabetes compared to non-Indigenous Australians. Specifically, the number affect from diabetes in ATSI females are twice than non-Indigenous females.
Diabetes can cause several serious health issues such as cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. Health complications by diabetes are microvascular diseases, macrovascular disease, increased susceptibility to infections, diminish heal process, distress, anxiety and depression.

The particular ATSI government program for diabetes is The Diabetes Australia Vic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program. They are consult and collaborate with high aboriginal organizations and communities. They work for improving health outcomes for these specific community. Staff require to understand of cultural differences. The retaining provides information about ATSI culture. There are many benefits of cultural awareness training. It is helpful to increase nurse knowledge. Further, it is benefit for nurse for understating of cultural differences as well as similarities. Moreover, nurse is assist with retaining Aboriginal employees over the long term period.
This acquire knowledge assist me as an Enrolled nurse in many important ways. It improves understanding regarding anti-discrimination and anti- racism. It helps in perception towards Aboriginal people and their culture. By this strategies, I can increase my confidence with positive attitude as Enrolled nurse. It enhance skills and strategies to provide better service to Aboriginal clients and working with Aboriginal colleague (Victorian Public Health Commission, 2016).
Besides this, this training will help to build awareness among the staff and interactions with Indigenous community members. It will also assist current and future interaction with Aboriginal colleagues and community.

According to me, ASTI unit gives very essential information about indigenous people and culture. By this unit, I can have knowledge about the indigenous culture. Specifically as an Enrolled nurse I have an idea what should I have to learn about culture differences and their strategies. Specially, I should respect every culture and every time with different culture patient I have to think about their culture, belief and regions (Victorian Public Health Commission, 2016).
