DIABETES
Being infected with a disease called diabetes, my grandmother, the one that I love the most, had been paralyzed for more than 8 years and finally passed away on October 15, 2016. Seeing her suffering with this kind of sickness for such a long time but I couldn’t do anything to help is what I regret the most. When my grandmother was paralyzed, I was only 9 years old. At such a young age, there’s nothing I can do to help her except watching her become thinner and thinner day by day. Now, I have grown-up, living with a fear that another person in my family can be diagnosed of having diabetes once again, I decide to do a research about this disease. Diabetes mellitus, which is also known as diabetes, is a disease which causes by an organ called pancreas. Pancreas is the organ which behind the stomach and is responsible for producing and synthesizing insulin in our body. If this internal organ cannot produce enough insulin or the body cannot use the insulin in a correct way, then a person is likely to have diabetes. Insulin is the factor that creates energy for the body and has the ability to co-operate with glucose in the bloodstream to burn the energy which it creates. If the insulin isn't functioning properly, glucose cannot enter the cells. This result in the increasing sugar level in the blood, creating high blood sugar or diabetes (Cleveland Clinic). No matter what types of diabetes you have, diabetes in general can create numerous serious problems in health such as damaging our eyes, kidneys, and the nerves in our brain. It is also one of the reasons behind heart disease, and stroke ( U.S National Library). The early stages of diabetes have very few symptoms, so it is very hard to recognize whether you have diabetes or not. The signs of diabetes may be not clear yet, but there are some damages happen to the eyes, kidneys and cardiovascular system even before you notice symptoms. Common symptoms include the following: Extreme hunger, extreme thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, slow healing wounds, vaginal yeast infections (Family Doctor). Symptoms of type 1 diabetes can expose fast just after a few weeks (National Institute). The symptoms include excessive excretion of urine, extreme thirst and hunger, sudden weight loss, blurry visions and fatigue. These symptoms may occur suddenly (World Health). Symptoms of type 2 develop so slow that sometimes the patient might not even take a notice of them (National Institute). The symptoms of this type may be similar to those of Type 1 but are often less marked. Therefore, once the disease is diagnosed, it might already be too late to be able to control the disease (World
