When I am trying to solve various problems in life, I find it very useful to identify what I consider to be the most direct solution, regardless of how I feel about actually implementing it. I find this to be the most clear and direct why to get around my problems. Many problems have multiple solutions, but often the solution require persistence to implement. But if we can somehow get myself to follow through, I know the solutions will actually work.
One of the problems I faced was when I had an interest in starting a new relationship with someone after my divorce. Although I didn't know how I would feel about starting a new relationship, I just had to give it a try. I took a direct approach and asked the person I was talking to and ask if she was interested in …show more content…
discussing the possibility of a closer relationship. regardless of the outcome, at least I know I gave it a try. Of course this solution took courage overcome the possibility of rejection, but it’s my why of deal with the problem of " starting a new relationship."
Another problem I had in my life was managing my cholesterol level.
I had to find a direct solution on how to manage my cholesterol. Of course the easiest why would have been to allow my doctor to prescribe medication to control it, but I chose not to start medication to manage my cholesterol problem. Instead, I took the direct approach to solve my cholesterol problem. I decided to do some research on my own and starting looking into the cause of high cholesterol and how can it be managed without medication. although high cholesterol is sometime hereditary, I found other ways on how to manage my cholesterol. I found that by increase the amount of vegetables and whole grains I can lower my cholesterol levels. Also by avoiding kinds of foods, such as shell fish, red meat and fried foods can increase my chances of successfully managing my cholesterol levels. By implement this rather simplistic solution, I was able to lower my cholesterol levels. however, It did require discipline and persistence, but it worked, if you follow through with daily exercise and a strict low fat, low cholesterol
diet.
I find that there are many challenging problems that have very simple, direct solutions. The real challenge is how to become the kind of person who can implement the most direct solutions instead of having to take a indirect path to compensate for laziness. This is why I try to work on my personal development, especially building my courage and self-discipline. To me, it's one of the best problem-solving techniques I know. When I started start practicing some problem solving techniques, problems that once seemed untenable become much easier to solve. I found that I've become better at implementing direct solutions instead of falling back on indirect ones.
The point of this is to hold the intention to find a direct solution to a problem. Once that solution is already known to you, implement the solutions..
