Diversity and Critical Thinking
Please answer the following questions either on this form or typed in your own document, then upload to Weekly Status Reports in Assignments. Due Friday, 5pm.
Imagine that you are networking with a company that you really would like to work for. They have a strong desire to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. The recruiter/executive you are speaking with asks the following questions to you. How would you respond? (Remember, we are in week 10 now and you should have well-developed, STAR-focused answers and should be able to give examples as evidence as often as possible).
1. “We really enjoy recruiting students from Kelley. However, we are concerned about the lack of diversity Kelley provides. What do you think about it?”
I think Kelley is trying to absorb more international students. Since the number of international students has increased a lot than before. Most of courses I take now have many group activities and mix students with different backgrounds. In addition, we know that Chinese, Koreans, and Indians tend to choose business major when entering college, and most Kelley international students are from these countries. I think Kelley did not do an excellent job on diversity, but has already done a really good job on it.
2. “How will you personally contribute to the diversity of thought we value at our company?”
I can share my perspectives and ideas with people from my experiences in China, which must be quietly different with Native Americans. I also like to work with diverse people, because we can widen our horizons and expand our thoughts
3. “How do you solve problems?”
Problem occurs mainly caused by lack of communication. Talking with each other and to understand what the real things caused the problems is a good way to find the method to solve.
