Diversity
Week 4
Before I go to questions on the topic of Diversity I’d like to express my personal feelings about “Diversity” a topic that hits home for me, coming from a minority group, all throughout my childhood I was bullied and pushed around for being different, at least to those lacking cultural intelligence, I was pushed around for being smarter, pushed around for speaking other languages and yes even pushed around for being better looking, I am not sure about the last one, one thing is for sure Diversity can no longer be just about making the numbers in an organization, but rather how an organization treats people authentically down to the roots of its business model.

I have studied this matter for a long period of time because I did not understand how could a country that has so much to give to the world be culturally ignorant?
I have tagged this as a hate crime, highly penalized, there should be no room for discussion or mis-interpretations, this should be highly energized by HR upon recruitment, when one employee treats another with disrespectful discriminating racial remarks of any kind, or discrimination on sexual orientation, religion, race etc. I as a leader have no tolerance for such absurd behavior, and have terminated many people because of this.

In the past paper, we talked about Pepsi and Coke, and coincidentally doing research I found a paper that I wish to share with you on how companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi are using Diversity as their secret ingredient:
The Value of Diversity: Coca-Cola & PepsiCo
“As global leaders in the beverage industry, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo approach diversity as a value-added activity. The companies’ products reach a variety of markets and cultures around the world, and they recognize the multiple benefits diversity can have to their long-term success.
As mentioned by Cox (2001), Coca-Cola and PepsiCo use diversity to fulfill organizational values, as well as add value to their organizations. With the rise of globalization, both companies especially recognize the value diversity can have on their human talent and global marketing strategies. According to the companies, diversity is critical to long-term sustainability (Coca-Cola), as well as the ability to serve customers effectively (PepsiCo).
