There are few opportunities to start programs that
bring students and faculty from different disciplines together, to educate them about each other’s role. This will enhance teamwork and alliance. By doing so, it will open up lines of communication and collaboration, so the health care professional can work together to give safe and quality care to the patients.
Therefore, implementing interprofessional education seems to be a challenge within the health care field. With the educators in nursing schools taking the lead to promote other disciplines, working with one another this will help prepare graduate students to recognize it takes a team to deliver good care. Therefore, nursing students will comprehend the importance and purpose of communication, teamwork and collaboration is in healthcare. (Barnsteiner, Disch, Mayer & Moore, 2007)
Once interprofessional education (IPE) is established, interprofessional collaboration (IPC) will be easier to understand from every discipline. Health care professional will be more satisfied in their career, which will decrease less staff less staff turnover, better patient outcome and will decrease medical errors. The nurses will be recognized as full partners along with other health care professionals, which will increase the nurse’s leadership skills. You will see health care professionals respecting one another, with less disruptions and the aggressive behavior towards staff within the organization.
As health care professionals, show respect for one another you will see an improvement in patient care, decrease hospital stays, better teamwork and nurses will be more satisfied with their job and it will be less costly for the organization. (IOM, 2016)
