Students are able to take their lessons and take the key points and turn them into a song or a rap turning music into a pneumonic device for learning. This type of connection between special education and music is a great example diversity in the classroom. It is a great and useful way to learn and hold the interest of the children with learning disabilities. Diversity is a point of difference, and it is good to have diversity in the classroom, because it keeps things interesting and the students involved. Music is a great way to bring diversity into the classroom. There are many different ways of incorporating music into your lessons and I know from teachers stories that it is great to use while dealing with students with learning disabilities. Not only can you use raps to learn material you can listen to songs that can teach students about the different cultures and ethnicities in our world. If we do not teach children in the classroom about things like cultures and ethnicities they will never know more than what they are exposed to. There are many different activities that could be used such as singing songs in different languages about different cultures and focus that day or week of learning on the specific language or culture. Another activity that I plan to use after my plan to sing different songs about languages and cultures is to bring in my guitar and make up a song with my students about what they learned. Music is a huge part of my life and using it to teach diversity will be a huge part of my future in teaching and speech pathology. When I was younger I played clarinet and this class refreshed my memory by us playing the recorder and I also play guitar and sing, so music has been a huge part of my life and I 100 percent agree with the fact that it is the best way to get a student involved and possibly even change their ways completely. I even remember a story told by you about a special needs student who would not be able to contain himself in a classroom and would never do what he was told until music was incorporated into his lesson and it changed him for the better.
