In the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep written by Phillip K. Dick, the future setting reveals many new scientific discoveries. There are two planets in which humans and androids attempt to coexist. In the book, there are also animals that are androids which are kept as pets or farm animals for people who cannot afford real pets or farm animals because they are too expensive. Referring back to Gernsback's quote, the existence of androids show the “ imaginative extrapolation of true natural phenomena” (Gernsback). Gerry Canavan, author of Anything Could Happen (And We Would Believe It), tells his audience that science fiction poses the possibility of the existence of another world. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep directly reflects that sentiment because it shows readers the possibility of two planets: one for androids and one for humans. When considering the technological advances that science fiction has predicted in the past and how it has shaped and modeled society today will help to foreshadow what the genre will become in the future. Looking back at past science fiction and technology that it perceive, such as Ray Bradbury’s “little seashells… thimble radios” in Fahrenheit 51 are today produced in the form of wireless radio earpieces. This technological advancement is only one of the few that have been achieved throughout the Sifi genre.
