Do Dogs or Cats Make Better Pets
“Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats” by: Carson Singer
I think there’s no doubt that dogs make much better pets than cats. Dogs are very fun and nice to be around. Dogs are also very playful and active, no matter how old they are. Dogs are also very smart and helpful. It’s no reason they call dogs mans (or woman’s) best friend and why they’re better pets than cats.
I run into cats on my paper route and they sure aren’t nice to be around. There’s this one cat that just hisses and snarls at me every time I deliver the paper. I feel like it’s going to attack me. There’s also a dog at the same house and it’s always wagging its tail and looking like it wants to play. I also used to run into this one cat I called “cranky kitty” walking up Requa Rd and one day he chased me and Dimitri up the hill, hissing and acting like it wanted to attack us. When my first dog, Tioga, was 13 years old he would still run around the house and play tennis ball with me for hours. I’ve never seen cats his age do anything except walk around slowly and maybe purr a little or rub up against your leg. They basically just want to be left alone and they’ll decide if and when they want to spend time with you. Dogs are playful but they don’t bite or scratch you like cats always do. We have lots of friends with cats and all they want to do is scratch me with their sharp little claws which isn’t very fun. Kittens, just like puppies are very playful and active but once they grow-up they become pretty boring. Dogs will only bite you if they’re being protective or feel very threatened. Cats just seem to want to scratch you all the time. Dogs also love to be around people. My dog Misty love to wake me up in the morning by racing into my room, jumping up on my bed and giving me kisses. She also jumps all over me and wags her tail when I get home from school and lets me lay down on her like a pillow when I’m tired. I don’t think a cat would do these types of things.

I think both cats and dogs are affectionate and caring once you give them a chance. Which animal shows most affection? Both animals do, a cat just chooses to show affection less. Both animals love you and will always protect you over any danger. Cats may have a bad reputation because of people that do not like cats, but they are loving and caring just like a dog or any other…

I read the article “Cats are funnier than Dogs”, written by Jesse David Fox. In this article, Jesse gave an idea that cats are more humorous and explained her opinion. The “funny” or “humorous” is based on cat’s characteristics. Cat is more self-centered. Different from other pets or animals, they think themselves are nobler and not willing to be demeaned. Therefore, cats are not very willing to obey order like dogs and making choice brilliantly and cleverly. For instance, Jesse said cats knew how to run away by flushing the toilet. Comparing with cats, Dogs are more loyal, obedient and friendly. They more like you friends and even your part of family. Because they listen to you and actually care about you. I have two dogs and my sister have…

    Why Cats Are Bad Pets

Cats are a bit messy. They like to sleep everywhere, and leave their hair of the couch cushions, curtains, comforter, and your clothes. They walk on your ledges, and if you have picture frames, candles, or any type of décor, they will knock it over. It’s just a given, you’ll come home to your things on the floor. It seems like every time you’re walking, or in the kitchen, they are right there by your feet, weaving too and fro as you are trying to get from one place to the other. It’s almost like they are trying to kill you. They have no respect for your personal space. If you’re sitting on one end of the couch, taking up only one cushion, they will feel obliged to jump up on your lap and stay there till you have to move. If you do move, and come back, good luck getting back on their good side, because they want nothing to do with you. They have a lot of diva in them. One minute they want every little bit of your attention, and the next they want nothing to do with you and will hiss if…

Behaviour in pets can tell you a lot about what they are feeling, and they’re different mannerisms can help you find out what they need. And this is how humans and their pets coexist in a household. For instance; Which way a dog wags its tail and the speed in which he does it, can tell what he is feeling, depending on the situation it’s in. British anthrozoologist John Bradshaw in Cat Sense states that, "An upright tail is probably the clearest way cats show their affection for us" (McCaffery). A raised tail is also usually a sign of friendliness toward another cat. The opposite, of course, is when cats lower and thrash their tails. It generally means they're irritated and dislike something that's occurring around them. The relationship you form with your pets is something only you two share. Different ways dogs and cats let themselves be heard in a household, is original to that particular household. And it forms a human to pet connection that only you two…

I know this sounds trivial and silly but this particular connection is far more important than people would expect. Ph. D John Bradshaw states that although the owner’s bond with the animal will remain constant and strong no matter the species of the animal, their feelings towards you could be significantly different depending on which animal you choose. He then backs up this claim stating the obvious “cats are different from dogs”. This is something we all know but we probably don’t pay much attention to what that means when choosing an animal to grow a relationship with. For instance, a dog will need to be walked unlike a cat, which means you will need to commit to the extra exercise and work put into an animal, this may be why dog owners stress that their bond is much greater than those of a cat owner (Bradshaw, John, Ph.…
