One example of someone being an example of why to not act on impulse is Griffin. If he didn’t take Cheyenne’s step-mother, Danielle, car Griffin wouldn’t be in a position of kidnapping a teenage girl. "Look, it's an accident you're here. I just wanted the car, not you. I didn't even know you were in here." (page 8) He acted on impulse. If he didn’t steal the car because it was the first thing that came into mind he would be in a much easier situation than he is in right now. In conclusion, if Griffin thought
before he acted he wouldn’t have to worry about Cheyenne and he would’ve never know she even existed.
Someone who showed that you shouldn’t act on impulse and to make sure you think thing through is Cheyenne. “For a minute, Cheyenne wondered if she could use the glass to hold them all at bay. And then what? She couldn’t come up with a scenario that lasted for more than a few seconds.” (page 73) If Cheyenne were to try to cut them, she could get in even more trouble. If Cheyenne cut them, Roy might kill her or she might never get released. Since Cheyenne thought about cutting them, she was ‘released’ later on and went back home alive.
In conclusion, in the novel Girl, Stolen written by April Henry, one of the themes are “Do not act on impulse. Think things through.” The theme is showed or learned throughout the book. If some of the characters did that some situations could’ve been avoided. The characters that did do it, avoided some problems.
