Does America Cherish Diversity
In our class we had a debate, if America cherishes Diversity. The whole class

had a turn to give their viewpoints if they think we cherish diversity or not. It was

basically half and half one side said they think America cherishes diversity and the other

half did not. We argued over Patels and Mcgregor’s viewpoints on what they wrote in

their articles, “Does Hollywood Cherish Diversity?” written by author Mcgregor and “Does

America Cherish Diversity?” written by author Patel. America is Diverse.

I believe America is Diverse because everyone has a right. For example

“America had gone from living under a dictator to living in a democracy.” We were no

longer treated unfairly, we now have a civil government. Everyone now at this point

I have learned much about diversity in the United States throughout the past nine weeks, and what I have learned is that even though there is so much diversity in the U.S., we actually are not that different from one another. According to Chapter 1, of Racial and Ethnic Groups, the term race lacks scientific meaning. The idea of biological race is based on the mistaken notion of a genetically isolated human group. There are no mutually exclusive races (Schaefer,…

In today’s society, one has to be culturally competent and sensitive to diversity issues in order to understand others. The reasons for this are to broaden one's worldview of others and be more open-minded, increase one's awareness of others' identities and cultures, as well as increasing one's knowledge of different ethnicities, races, and cultures. This allows someone to work with people from different backgrounds and be more accepting of the various cultures and people we will have to work with.…

Linkage institutions can be defined as institutions that connect citizens with the government. Examples of linkage institutions include elections, political parties, interest groups, and the media. Elections specifically are supposed to encourage public participation in the selection of governmental officials. Unfortunately, low voter turnout has proved that elections are an imperfect linkage institution. Elections depend on voters to be successful, and some factors that relate to the likelihood of voting include age, education, and race. Although some people underestimate the power of the vote, voter turnout is important to the future stability of the country. Without elections, the United States would not be the same powerful world power that it is today.…

I think race matter in America and that we are far from post-racial society. Think of different scenario happening around the country where people from different race are discriminated because of their race. Without going far, why would we have to fill out our race on job application here at ASU on student employment website? If we are in post racial society that wouldn’t be the case because my race has nothing to do with my qualification to the job I am looking for. I do agree that race is social construct and doesn’t have genetic basis, but in America race has become a major difference between people. In my country there are different race (white, Asians …..), but I never considered myself as different or one race to be a problem till I came…

In an ideal world, humanity would understand that all mankind is created equally; that the underlying truth of each of us is goodness, and that through awareness, conscious choice and the willingness to create positive change, we could live in a world where diversity is celebrated. We would leave behind the substantial racist and oppressing patterns that exits in this world, specifically in the United States of America. It is said that the U.S. is a melting pot of cultures, and that we are a country of immigrants existing together as a new culture, living under the values of a democracy based on freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet this policy is completely disregarding…

In simple terms, cultural diversity can be defined as the level of diversity or difference in a given society. Societies that display high levels of diversity exhibit many differences across that population. Differences can include skin color, religious affiliation, cultural practices and other ethnic beliefs and customs. Immigration is a major factor in determining the level of diversity that a given society is exposed to. Ever since the dawn of time, humans have traveled the globe in curiosity to interact with other civilizations. These interactions were either well intentioned to share and form partnerships, or militaristic conquests to expand territories and force populations to conform to foreign ideals. These such interactions helped to foster cultural diversity both genetically, as is the case with Attila the Hun, or substantively through the spread of cultural beliefs and practices worldwide.…

The biggest problem of immigration is the way it has divided America. During this last election, I heard the topic of Immigration discussed more than I’ve ever heard before, and most of it was opinion, rather than fact. Immigration has triggered the most disgusting fears of many Americans, the “foreign people are coming to take over” fear. In my opinion, immigration is a good thing, as it brings diversity to the United States, which is something I value very much. Many people believe that immigrates come to America, rent homes, use the U.S. and then leave. However, according to the Center for American Progress, 50.7 percent of immigrants are homeowners, compared to 64.6 percent of U.S. citizens. I’ve heard quite a few people say that immigrants…
