Imagine a domino. You are lining them side-by-side in a chain. If you get lazy and start speeding up, you will knock one over and, one by one, all of the dominos will eventually fall. This is the same with Rome. Rome “developed a soft belly”, as quoted from the background essay, which means that Rome started becoming lazy. At that point, Rome knocked over one domino in the chain. One domino at a time, the “one of the world's greatest empires”, as said in the background essay, became nothing but ruins. But that wasn't the main reasons of Rome's fall. Then what caused Rome to tumble? Economic corruption, weak army, and foreign invaders played a key role leading to the decline of the Roman Empire. Of these, the foremost reason was its weak army.…

The Roman empire, what is now modern day Italy, was one of the largest and most powerful empires of the ancient world. Rome’s fall was inevitable since the initiation of its grand expansion. Rome had grown to such a large size, that it could no longer take care of itself to the level that was needed. Internal factors caused the Roman empire to wane. Three facts that support this statement include, but are not limited to; its several civil wars and revolts among slaves and plebeians, a reliance on war and trade that eventually destroyed the economy, and the rise of Christianity which questioned Rome’s mores and values.…

Rome was one of the greatest empires of its time. They conquered so much land that they had to split it in half to be able to manage all of it. They had ruthless leaders who gained so much power and land for Rome. They also had a military that was practically invincible and they could take down anyone who tried to stand in their way. Another reason that Rome fell was because of its government. Through the years, its leaders became corrupt. Rome went from a republic to an emperor-rules-all system. A colossal factor that contributed to the fall of Rome is political instability and political corruption. Holding a political office in ancient Rome was said to pay very well. Politicians were not only running for government positions for power reasons, but also for money purposes. This skewed the validity of government leaders, often leading to officials focusing on themselves and their wealth and title, instead of what is best for the people of Rome. The validity of government leaders can be related back to present day America. Government officials now are not always qualified for their job. Instead, one might say they are running for their own gain, or to achieve a certain title, not really caring about the good of America.…

We all know the saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, and much in the same way one could say that it didn’t end in a day either. It was a major power at the time with a full scale economy, a concrete political system, and a seemingly stable infrastructure. The fall of this empire, be it from the power struggles between the Emperor and the Senate which ended up bringing about the phrase “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”, the decline in morals which led to the view of romans as being a lewd society, the rapid growth of the empire which created an ever growing need to protect the borders of the empire, the failing economy due to the cost of defense spending and the constant amount of gold being lost to other empires via trade, or the constant attacks of the barbarians who were continually getting stronger and more accustomed to Roman military tactics, taught…
