In the world there are many issues that people in the world do not agree about. People can protest and express their feelings about the issue in a peacefully manner or in an angrily one. Does peaceful resistance to laws positively or negatively impact the community and society as a whole?
Where I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico, I see people protesting on the issue of abortion. Daily, I see them with signs protesting that abortion is wrong. I believe that by these people peacefully protesting, it gives people different points of views on the topic that they did not think about before. According to (Dear, 2012), “While only one in four violent campaigns succeed, about three out of four nonviolent campaigns succeed.” With this information it is stating that peaceful resistance is more effective than protesting with violence. This statement is true because with violent protesting the issue becomes bigger than what it actually should be. With peaceful protesting no one is being harmed and everyone is able to express their opinions.

Most of these protests are about standardized testing and low wages. There are huge topics in the community and many protests go on. With the standardized testing many people did not like the fact that a test the state makes up determines if a student passes or fails that school year. Peaceful protests such as walk outs and walks around the city were conducted during this time. It did get the word around quite fast and many joined the protest. This impacted the community positively and while doing so brought students together through what they thought was right. By peacefully protesting the school district aloud student to have the option to opt out of the test that year. This was a positive impact on the school community as many students took the option to not take the standardized
