In addressing domestic violence and the problems encountered by social workers, we have realised that social workers are over worked; the ratio of clients to one social-worker in an area is cause for concern from the relevant authority. Social Workers needs to be contented with themselves in order to perform efficiently at their job, many social workers are on month to month contracts and with the overload of clients the issue of whether contracts would be renewed can affect their productivity.
When it comes to the issue of domestic violence social workers face
many trials, issues such as failure of clients to report the acts of domestic violence, failure of the client to follow the given instructions, failure of the client to give truthful information etc. Also there are problems such as the lack of resources to properly assist the victims such as the much needed housing facilities to house persons who are victims along with their children of domestic violence.
For the period 2012 to 2013, the National Domestic Violence Hotline handled 997 new client calls of which 767 were female and 230 were male. For the period January to June 2014, there were 65 calls; 46 females and 19 males . Safety begins at home and if persons cannot feel safe at home, where can they feel safe?
