Camp Report
……………………………………………………………………….............
Scouting is incomplete without camping. It is quite true indeed and hence, we here at Don Bosco Bandel Scout Group try to make sure that our scouts are not deprived of this gift. So, we organize scout camps to places both far and near, but yes, never in our school campus. This year however we did not have to organize any scout camp exclusively as this year was a mega year, as this year we were having the 12th National Boscoree at Tanjore, a gathering of Don Bosco scouts and guides, a gathering which we all have been waiting for the past 4 years since the last Boscoree which was held in Dimapur, Nagaland. We boarded our train Coromandel Express (train No: 12841) from Howarh station at about 3 pm on the 28th of December. The journey was quite intense as everyone was excited and nervous at the same time. Excited because they were going to be representing their school at the national level, nervous because they a legacy to uphold. We were greeted with torrential rainfall when we reached Chennai but we did not let the weather dampen our spirits and made our way cheerfully to Chennai Egmore Station from where we had to board a train to Thanjavur. We finally reached Thanjavur on 30th morning and it took us about till 11 am to finally reach Don Bosco Thanjavur, the place where this event was going to be held. The camp was declared open after the inaugural march past, an event in which our boys did exceedingly well and were awarded with an ‘O’ or Outstanding grade. The next day we had a lot of activities. Our first activity on 31st December was the Friendship Game were we had to interact with scouts from other states, our boys took part in that quite enthusiastically and by the end of the game we could see our boys having made many friends from various parts of the country. We were quite glad to see this as making new friends and

Nobody seems to be interested at all on what's going on outside, there's not even people walking around the camp trying to interact with one another. This can tell me two things, the first one is that the camp is in fact empty and nobody has arrived yet or two the one I believe is true and that is that the people in the camp stay inside all day or that when there is an activity going on, like a baseball game, everyone wants to attend the activity because it one of the only forms of entertainment they have at the…

I became an officer of one of the two tribes at camp. All the girls are spilt into the two different tribes for various competitions. The officers consist of two scouts, a squaw, a scribe, a med man, and a chieftain in that order. The girls of the tribe then elect their officers. I was scribe and med man during my last two years respectively. As scribe I would keep track of the tribe competitions we won, new members to the tribe, and any new cheers or chants we had…

Have you ever been to a camp that did not even have a roof to cover the rain? The camp had tons of people, especially friends, it had to different cabins, five for the boys and five for the girls. The camp had an awesome pool and an amazing lake that a lot of people swam in. There were also a lot of cookout with no hot dogs, pork chops, burgers, and only marshmallows for dessert. At nighttime there would be wonderful tag games in the dark and when you were done, you get to talk with other people. The camp lasts a total of at least 7 long days and a lot of people would probably want to come back a second time. Also the name of the camp is Camp Manitowa which is located in Benton, Illinois.…

    2. What would the ideal experience of camp be? To me, the ideal camp experience would be for these girls not only have a fun time and build a bond as sisters in Islam but to also build a stronger bond with Allah SWT. At the end of the day, that is the biggest goal we have at Girls Youth and to have five days with them, I want to help them accomplish that.…

For many Americans, going to a summer sleep-away camp as a child is an experience to be treasured well into adulthood. Present and former campers often speak of the experiences and the friendships that resulted from their time at sleep-away camp as some of the most important and meaningful ones of their lives. Critics, however, often view summer sleep-away camps in a very different way, insisting that they are elitist and that the children who are sent there miss out on valuable bonding time with their parents and the friends who live in their hometowns.…

My peers deemed this activity as an unpopular pastime. The number of scouts that I had originally grown up with dwindled as they matured and fell victim to the ecstasy of conforming. Despite this period of self-discovery and awkwardness, Scouting remained a part of my routine throughout high school. I eventually took on more leadership roles and began to pursue more badges for the narrow road of an Eagle Scout, a path that only about five percent of all Boy Scouts meet. I started to neglect this age of conformity and aimed to find my true character. My junior year of high school was coming to an end, and I was closer than ever to the pinnacle. Soon, I was standing in front of my family and my fellow Scouts reciting a speech that would sum up eleven years of my scouting career in a few hundred words, and it hit me. This was my revelation. My days as a scout draws to an end, but the values that I have taken from this experience will never leave me. I no longer hesitate when I see someone in need, I continue to respect others regardless of their situation, and I live my life proudly based on the twelve adjectives of the Scout…

Boy Scouts instilled a discipline in me that is difficult to come across elsewhere. The program teaches you to be responsible and respectful, while still learning about nifty science tricks and the fundamentals of sports. The camaraderie was also great, especially during the various camping trips where we were able to be close to nature while we learned about plants and animals. One of the most valuable lessons taught was to always put others in front of yourself in everything, no matter what. For example, scouts were taught to be willing to let others go before them…
