As a result of the accident she sustained a broken left arm, which at her age of 75 it takes more time to heal, due to the frailty of her elderly bones. She incurred medical expenses due to her broken arm and the injury has prevented her from visiting her family and going about her day to day activities as she normally would do. She has had…
The likelihood of an injury from this hazard is high as people could trip over it, maybe rushing to an emergency and the chair is blocking the way and causing a risk to staff and patients. The severity of injury is that someone could break/fracture a bone depending on how hard the fall is or the age/health of the patient. However we understand that some people need to be transported by wheelchairs as they cannot walk from a leg injury or they may just not be able to walk very far from where they were coming from. A porter may have left the wheelchair just in case an emergency occurred and we needed to transport someone quickly to a place who couldn’t walk/ walk far. The wheelchair could also be a hazard to children who decide to play on them as the brakes may not be on which would cause the wheelchair to move whilst a child was on it. This could mean that a child would end up falling and the wheelchair falling over causing another risk from the wheelchair being left…

Jonathan Edwards’s speech "Sinners in The Hands of an Angry God" was given to a group of puritans in 1741. In this time in the American colonies the citizens were becoming more and more distant from the church so Edwards tried to change that with a new kind of sermon. As the speech was given Edwards spoke in a very serious manner, he delivered it as if were a final warning to the puritans. This speech was Edwards attempt at waking up the puritans; he planned to shock and scares his audience into increasing their belief and respect for the Christian faith using writing devices to increase his speeches impact.…
Most schools have a set of expectation that they center their school around. One essential expectation for the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester is having outstanding faculty and administration, as they put a lot of effort into ensuring that the faculty at the school is what fits their standards. Schechter does this so our teachers will inspire us to follow in their foot steps of getting a great education while establishing close relationships. Pictures 1,9, and 16 represent the standards that Schechter has for their teachers: their teachers must be able to make good connections, and relate to the students at Schechter, as well as having degrees from elite schools.…
The Center for Bionic Medicine has worked to develop a manual standing wheelchair that offers the ability for users to be mobile in different positions. The chair is being fine-tuned by the Ability Lab. The wheelchair will benefit many users of traditional wheelchairs in their everyday lives. The wheelchair will make it easier to navigate workspaces, use counters and house hold appliances, as well and promote independence among users. The wheelchair will reduce medical risks such as osteoporosis and pressure sores. The wheelchair project hopes to improve the lives of those that are wheelchair bound both physically and…
A Child Called It is a true story written by Dave Pelzer. It’s about the horrifying abuse he went through as a child, written in his child perspective. To assist the mobility of individuals with sensory loss, aids such as guide dogs, canes and carers are available and would make lives a lot easier.…
The equipment could consist of wheelchairs, hoists, electrical equipment or even a bed. If something were to happen; for example, a carer not using a hoist correctly, then the service user could be at risk of developing bruises and minor or major cuts, in some extensive cases the patient could even end up being crushed by the hoist. Sometimes, it will not always be the carers fault, the hoist could be used without a carer knowing it is broken. The possible causes of a service user being hurt by a hoist could be because of the lack of maintenance and thorough examination or the patient could get caught between two different moving parts. This is a hazard for elderly people because when you get older, your bones become fragile and even the slightest fall could result in a major injury. To prevent this from happening, the Care Home should ensure that all equipment (even the least important) should have maintenance checks to make sure all equipment is fully working and even the slightest error with equipment should be checked over and fixed IMMEDIATELY. If their equipment is likely to break and get damaged then the Care Home should invest in some better quality hoists from somewhere that is a well known brand. If a service user is at risk with the equipment then the Care Home could therefore risk being sued by the family of that service user because the patient could get seriously…
Losing mobility in society is challenging, but overcoming those challenges can be accomplished. Anjali Forber-Pratt had a dream to race in a wheelchair in the Olympics, she achieved that goal and won. Taking what you were giving and make the most of it is exactly what she did. She inspires people everyday to never give up and that they can do anything they set their heart on. Her parents were criticized based on the ethical perspectives of others for the way they treated her as a child. When she fell out of her chair, her mother would not pick her up. Instead she would encourage Anjali to pick herself up because one day her mother will not be there. Her mother was strong and wanted her to have the best life, teaching independence over dependence was the way to ensure…
Many times, we learn stupid facts to pass a test and we never to actually apply them into our lives because these facts don’t seem importance to us. Samuel Scudder, an aspiring zoologist, began studying entomology before turning to study insects, when he came across Professor Agassiz who really helped to change his perspective about learning. Agassiz would say, “Facts are stupid things… until brought into connection with some general law.” Professor Agassiz acknowledge that facts are no good on their own but supported with context and connections can make them important to our lives today. Although, it’s hard to apply the anatomy of a fish to life, an experience Scudder would last him a life time. “It was almost with reluctance that I left…

Opposites attract. In the short story “The Sentimentality of William Tavener” by Willa Cather, this saying is never so easily understood. Protagonist Hester Perkins is a domineering woman, who is completely unlike the easygoing character of her husband, William Tavener. In this story, the static character of William Tavener and the dynamic character of Hester Perkins provide a flawless contrast that captures the reader’s attention until the very end. Throughout the story, William Tavener is portrayed as calm, quiet, and docile so he perfectly counteracts the character of Hester.…
