Donald Trump's Sentence Structure
Today’s society relies heavily on social media receive information on current topics and events. From political figures and celebrities to the common person, social media has become more evident in everyone’s life. Since the beginning of this semester, I have decided to take a closer look to the language used on Twitter. Furthermore, I have specifically focused on the sentence structure on few individuals. The first individual, I have taken note of, is Donald Trump. Trump has a unique way that he structures tweets, which allows him emphasis certain words. His decision, to change the word order, has allowed him to assure his audience recognizes his tone and position on a certain topic. For example, on February 5th, Donald Trump tweets “Just
cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. […] People pouring in. Bad!” In this message, he states his thoughts regarding a judge’s decision on immigration by adding an adjective (“bad”) to ensure the reader completely understands. Furthermore, this can be seen periodically in his tweets as he often adds dishonest and sad as well as other adjectives too. Another individual that I have focused on is Ryan Reynold. Reynold presents himself as a very witty and amusing person by altering the order of context in his tweets. In January, he tweets “Went to Disneyland because my daughter's obsessed with Mickey Mouse. She was so excited when I got home and told her.” In this tweet, Reynold is able to make the reader misinterpret the message of his tweet by leaving out the fact that he went to Disneyland by himself after describing his daughters love for Mickey Mouse. This alternation to the order of information being presented results in a clever and funny tweet. Ultimately, this example displays he’s ability to alter the order of information in his tweet to create humor.
