Donna Monologue
I have to do it. With exhaustion overtaking her, Donna had trouble forming complete thoughts. All she could understand was the dog–what’s his name...Cujo?– was watching them, waiting for her to make herself vulnerable so he could sink his nasty, gnarled teeth into her pale flesh. I have to do it. I have to make a run for it. Stranded in the Pinto with no food or water, Donna was becoming desperate. With her son, Tad, in the back seat, she knew they would only survive for another day or two. The symptoms of dehydration and starvation were kicking in, and hallucinations blended with reality, making Donna unsure of anything anymore, besides one thing; she had to save Tad. Open the car door, close it quietly...but what if it doesn’t close all the way...Tad will die...the dog will get him…gross, scary dog... it’ll get me next. Close the door firmly, but as quiet as possible...but the dog will get me...big, bloody dog...sharp teeth… Donna could not drag her mind away from the dog that would quite possibly be her killer. After drifting in and out of consciousness for an unknown time, she snapped into focus at the sound of her dying son’s …show more content…
I’m gonna kill that darned dog if I get the chance. She scanned the Cambers’ house and the shed, where Joe fixes the engines or tires, or whatever needs fixing. She looked over to the field on the left and the old picket fence on her right. Cujo was nowhere to be found. Here’s my chance, she thought with a crazy, desperate look in her eyes, I have to go now. This is my only chance! Donna’s thoughts were playing so loudly and wildly in her head that she thought she might pass out. I’m gonna go. I’m gonna run to the door, and it’ll be unlocked...but what if it’s not, what if the door is locked and I can’t get inside...but it will be unlocked, it has to be. I’ll run in the door, slam it shut, then dial the police. They’ll come and save
