Dover Remembrance Day Speech
Today, I went to the Dover Remembrance Day Parade, held every year, outside the, now, Dover Town Hall. Having attended the last three, I can see that more and more people, uniformed, serving, ex-serving and civilians, are turning up.

I have often wondered what we are actually doing there -both collectively and individually - and what, if anything, we hope to achieve.

For me, it is a mixture of feelings, hopes and emotions:
One the one hand, I wish to 'remember' the pain, suffering and loss of all servicemen and women and all civilians who gave all they could give in support of the doctrine and orders of the day - whether 'friendly' or 'enemy', and the worthless wish that no-one should ever suffer or lose their life's, in m name, ever again. Ridiculous, I know. However, I am fairly sure that many of those

How many dead 'you and me's' did it take before those at the top decided that the head of the enemy state had to be specifically targeted and killed?
I would suggest that this is one of the few times that politicians and world leaders actually consider what we, the hoi polloi, the servers, the dictated to and persuaded subjects, face and consider every day of our lives - the fear of consequence!

I have always believed that wars are the result of the greedy and power hungry having their way. Position, wealth and influence over others, are the ultimate reasons behind wars.
Religion, often pointed at as the reason for most wars, is little more than influence over others, promulgated by those previously indoctrinated and altered through time by the, so called, holier than thou' brigade because they are closer to your god than you are, and seek power over more. So they, like politicians, dictate the tune and tempo.

However. Back to today:
I stood with many others to remember all those lost lives, caused by greed and where politicians and diplomats failed to do their jobs properly and stopped wars from

As soon as the Americas were discovered, tens of thousands of people wanted to migrate across the sea. The fastest the voyage could be made was approximately one or two months. Communication between the colonies and England was extremely difficult. The regulation of religion was basically impossible. Without the government to intervene, colonists were free to grow whatever they wished and do what they wished with their money. Also, it is exceedingly difficult to govern a colony from thousands of miles away, so the colonies needed to develop their own system of governing. Britain at this pointed adopted a policy of salutary neglect. Salutary neglect allowed the North American society to develop and change into something completely different from what it originally was in England.…

On the early Sunday morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy Air Service commenced its preventative strike against the U.S. at the naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. 1 The battle, though only lasting approximately two hours, took the lives of 2,500 Americans and damaged all eight of the U.S. Naval ships. Shortly after on December 8, 1941 Congress declared war on Japan while President Roosevelt addressed the attack through the Day of Infamy Speech.2…

All the hate in the world, all the resentment, all the greed, and all the corruption can drive any person insane, yet we can escape this insanity, and we can escape this evil by participating in events like this. Everyone needs and deserves events like this, but not everyone at my age has realised this yet. People don’t see the importance in an opportunity like this, but four of us and a few more do. Once more, I am one of these people, I am ready to take a break from the stresses of everyday life in the 21st century, and I’m not ready to let an opportunity like this to slip through my hands. And that, is one of the reasons why I believe that I should be one of those who lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and twisted and complex as this essay may be, it is nothing compared to the human mind. But the human mind can be understood sometimes, much like my writing, and one thing that is understood is that the mind needs events like these to relieve the pressure of one’s self and to keep someone sane, and that, along with every other aforementioned reason, is why I truly want to lay the wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown…

Nothing centralizes power like war. Whether faced with a threat real or manufactured, it seems that people sink into a mind-less situation agreeing to anything. When the emperor of Rome burned the city in effort to persecute Christians, he gained control of the population; we did not learn. When, Hitler burned the Reichstag shortly after elected, he blamed the destruction of this government building on his political enemies;…

The memorable quote "All gave some...Some gave all" really describes the emotion all of us as Americans should have towards our flag. Memorial Day is a tribute to those who died for our country. We use our flag to honor them by decorating their graves. If that doesn't show the honor that comes along with our flag, nothing…

What does Veterans Day mean to me?” I ask myself this very question every November 11th. I think long and hard about this, and come up with several answers. In my mind, Veterans Day is a day to celebrate and appreciate all the wonderful things that military veterans have done for us in protecting our country. Veterans Day is also a day reserved for honoring all the people that have served in the military, people who have died in the military, and people who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country. When I think of November 11th, I don’t just think about what I’m going to wear that day, or what I’m going to learn in school that day. I think about what goes on in the daily lives of those fighting in wars, giving up their lives to protect ours.…

It’s not that easy being green. It’s not that easy being a frog, either. Some would say that he is the most awesome amphibian of all time. Others would proclaim him a puppet above the rest. His name and footprints are on a star at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, a rare honor given only to the best in Hollywood. It’s an even greater leap for an amphibian. You guessed it. I am here today to honor Kermit the Frog, a well-mannered, always positive, funny, frog who left the life of a quiet, peaceful swamp in the bayou to take on the world with his green philosophy. To some Kermit is an icon of hope for a greener, cleaner world, and to others he is an inspiration towards acceptance and kindness to his fellow creatures on Earth. To ALL who have ever heard Kermit speak or sing, he is the voice of wisdom and encouragement when they just need a smile.…

Remembrance Day is important and should continue to be recognized and celebrated. First of all, Remembrance Day is a time when everyone respects and thanks all of the soldiers who have fought in a war. Some soldiers were forced to join the battle and fight, so this is a day when every person shows how grateful they are to the people who were required to sacrifice their life. Without this day, people may think that soldiers are just there to protect everyone, so they should not be given respect. But because they gave up their lives and did so much for everyone else, there is a day dedicated every year to show all the veterans our appreciation.…

Hardly anyone actually honors the soldiers by going to the parades/ceremonies in their communities. We owe it to the dead to honor their memory. The people who died for our ideals and for their values were ordinary men and women who left the safety of their homes to fight to ensure justice and protect our country. Brave individuals gave their time, strength, and effort to protect our country and all that it stands for. In doing so, countless men and women who were treasured by many, have lost their lives Their hard work and sacrifice for our nation is sometimes taken for granted; the heroic men and women who have died fighting for our freedoms must be remembered. We take for granted their sacrifices; we should take effort in reminding ourselves of the individuals who lost their lives for us.…

In order to understand a culture, it is important to understand their arts, ranging from their music, their visual arts, to their theatre, etc. One of the most important arts used to understand a culture is literature. According to the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, literature is defined as writings in prose or verse, especially writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest. By understanding the literature of a certain culture or civilization, it is deductable what human characters were honored and cherished by the people of the time. During the Greek civilization, two works are able to be used to find out what the Greeks admired in the human persona. In the Iliad, the epic poem commonly…
