Sande’s lecture and Dr. Blackstone’s article, the need for poverty reduction measures, especially those on Aboriginal reserves was emphasized. Both brought up excellent examples, like the Campaign 2000 and the Child Tax Benefit, which serve to reduce poverty. If that is the case indeed and there are numerous programs to minimize the high rate, then why has poverty persisted till this day? Although this may be related to issues such as housing, abuse, and unemployment, but the government already possess knowledge of the external and internal factors that lead to poverty? So, how has it not been eliminated yet?
