Dr. King had a dream. A dream in which people were not judged by the color of their skin. What made him different from countless others fighting for their dreams, though, was his insistence for nonviolence. Like Gandhi before him, Dr. King fought with the power of words instead
of fists. By guiding African Americans in a peaceful direction, he became the beacon of hope to all those seeking equality and justice.
Martin Luther King Jr. spoke out against the injustices towards African Americans. He became the voice of those who had no voice of their own. He set an example for all African Americans fighting for the rights which had been promised to them many years before. In doing so, he has made many great contributions to the fight for civil rights, and the impact he has had on society will forever be remembered.
While segregation and discrimination still exist today, Dr. King made the first big step towards racial equality. He set the foundation for civil rights for all Americans today. He has shown me, along with countless others, that you do not need violence to change the world. All you need is faith, persistence, and the willingness to do what is right.
