Drake Know Yourself

In his song “Know Yourself,” Drake says the line, “I’ve always been me, I guess I know myself.” The “know thyself” theory states that learning and knowing one’s self all knowledge will present itself to you and the world will open itself to you. The world truly has opened itself to Drake as he’s become one of the most iconic artists of our generation. From the very beginnig of his career, Drake has had the ability to take the feeling, emotions, and anxieties and turn them into hit classics his fans can relate to on a personal level. Drake speaks nothing but truth in his lyrics and this is why he is such an amazing artist. He truly shares the same bonds as an everyday person. His lyrics portray him just as vulnerable as anyone else, and are just as revealing about the person
Because of how prominent the mood is throughout the album, it begins to feel overwhelmingly downplayed, and actively blocks any feeling of a forthcoming springtime salvation. Along with the wintery mood comes what feel like self-loathing tendencies from Drake, he continuously plays into what feels like growing paranoia and it seems quite forced at times. This mood can be felt on songs like “9,” where he states, “Life is always on, man, I never get a break from it … Doesn’t matter where I go, I can never get away from it.” These verses makes the his attitude feel extremely overblown and unnecessary. The downside of Drake’s self-proclaimed “no new friend” mentality is exposed. Though it seemingly worked for Drake on earlier works during his come-up, for someone as big as him now, a bunkered mindset can snub out several opportunities to explore curiosity. VIEWs is marked by frigidness and fragility throughout. Though much of mood VIEWS gives off may be true to Toronto’s darker and colder months, it makes the city sound like a pretty inhospitable and unbearable
