Dramatic Monologue

Only fools became starfighter pilots, and my mother was one of them. It is dumb to put yourself at so much risk, because you may end up as a flaming fireball through space. Like my mother. You would never know if the Sinats would attack, or ambush, or raid. My point is, piloting a starfighter is very, very dangerous. And of course, my mother happened to be one of them; a flying, dangerous maniac. By my fathers definition, she was extra stupid, but I always thought that flying a starfighter had made her extra brave and heroic. Even though everyone in our family knew this would happen one day, it was still a shock that I was there to experience it all. My mother worked for the Governmental Space Defence system, or GSD for short.

Levitation rings, I thought. Levitation rings could let ships hover in mid air, kind of like a helicopter. The levitation rings cost a fortune, there was no way that our family would be able to afford one, even if we tripled how much money we all earned in a lifetime. But somehow the GSD was still able to afford it. But I still stood in awe, this was my moms ship? It was like nothing I had ever seen, it was so unique, so special, so much like my mother. “Now do you know what I mean, my little hero?” I continued to stare in astonishment, this was better than any of the other planes, or the hangers. This was the most special moment of my life. But little did I know, this amazing day would soon end, because just as I started to soak in all of the greatness, the alarms went off. The sound was enough to give someone a night terror, it sounded as if it were a nuclear warning signal. But my mother knew better. “Stay calm, my little Lit. I’m sure this will all end soon.” Said my mom. But it didn’t. It would never end, this sound would never let me forget about it. “Ok honey, lets head back to our ho—.” An explosion hit the ground, cutting off my mom’s voice. It hadn’t hit us, but it was still dangerous, around 100 feet away. …show more content…
No, not really, but it is. I mean, I do know Skift. Skift is probably the only person in Omega who actually understood what it was like for me. We met each other in kindergarten. Those were the days of the day. I could tease or pick on all of the other kids, and I wouldn’t get in trouble. Even though me and Skift are best buddies, we were like opposites. On every assignment or test (ew, tests) we had, he would never get below an A-, where as for me, I never got a grade above F, but I don't care, if someone wants to grow up to be a class A starfighter pilot, or trainee, they wouldn’t have to know anything unless it had to do with flying. Even though Skift never liked getting in trouble (which I don't know why), we had amazing experiences together. Like the time we broke into the Principal's house, and took all the money we could, which happened to be one dollar, or the time we hijacked a police hover car. Those days were awesome! But things have changed since then, we still stay together, but he isn’t as fun as he used to be. At least he still wants to be a starfighter pilot like me. We’ve spent the last three years studying, of course I wasn’t the one doing anything, but I still managed to learn stuff like: How many G-Watts are in a type two D dive? Easy, 7.9. At this point, I figured there was no way I could flunk the Starfighter Pilots Training Manual Test, or the SPTM. The SPTM is a test where anyone in Omega could try to take it, and maybe

The bitter night Avah was killed the whole town was out celebrating. The Spring Festival was an annual affair and only the most isolated of persons would have not been there. It was a festival meticulously planned out by those intrigued in such matters and each detail was carried out to exact perfection. The Humphrey family would perform a skit each year at exactly six-thirty, the mayor would grace the audience with a well-planned speech at six-forty-five. At seven o’clock the potluck dessert would be brought out by the women and then once a half hour had passed, enough time for the people to converse with each other, the festival games would begin.…

My father trotted up to the dart game, like he was a big shot. I requested if I could play at least once. He said “sure thing.” As I walked up to the stand with the dart already on the table, I thought I was ready to throw it at the rubbery balloon. I closed my dark brown eyes and squinted very tight at the only balloon I wanted.…

As I walked into the barbers for my weekly shave I notice the barber sharpening his razors. The colour drains from his face, and though I can not see it, I know he’s trembling. I almost laugh, it’s like he wants to be caught. I begin to remove my belt, as it holds my gun and my cartridges, the weapon that killed his allies, and notice him eyeing it nervously. I stop myself from smiling as I hang it onto the hook in the wardrobe and rest my hat on top.…

The vile odour of disinfectant permeates the air around me. My heart is racing and my trembling, sweaty hands cling onto my mother’s like a sloth to its branch. Gradually, more doctors begin to crowd around me, resembling vultures hovering over their prey, preparing to strike. The clanging of metal instruments and beeps of various machines distract me momentarily. Looking over to my left, I see a stout, middle-aged man donned in a green surgical gown. He is wearing a big, red foam nose and a multi-coloured cap, with a peculiar propeller-like object perched on top of it. I almost burst out laughing, but fear latches onto me. My eyes pan down from his cap to the sharp object in his hand. Who even is this man? What is he going to do with that?…

The sun was an arctic blue overhead as I lay on what appeared to be a dull orange shrub. I closed my eyes for a moment, completely disoriented. Just a moment ago I was in a park, I remember a tugging sensation on myself, then a crushing feeling, before suddenly being thrust into the sky that I see now, completely alien from my world. If I see that one of my friends is continuously looking off into space with a frown or looking down into their laps as if waiting for something ‘right’ to fall into it. . I make it a priority to text or talk to them about it. Usually they’ll say things like “I’m just tired.” Obviously, being someone who uses that excuse as if it’s the secret to life, I tell them it’s okay to talk about it if they need to. But, what about me?…

Dramatic Intro Flashing lights were blinding my vision, and emergency sirens were screaming in my ears, both making it hard to process the situation I was in. I looked around praying to find something familiar that could possibly give me guess as to what was happening, but was interrupted by sharp creaking of a metal door, which robbed my attention. I looked towards the direction the sound was coming from and was shocked to see the face of a man, I tried moving but couldn’t. Confused I asked him “what the he** is going on?”, but he didn't answer my question, instead he yelled to, what i'm assuming was another person, “he’s alive, but the door has him pinned”. Sadly he was right, because when I looked to my left I saw a metal rod lodged into…

I closed my eyes and as I opened them I was looking straight at my mother. That instant our eyes were locked I never wanted the lock to break. Another tear slipped down, and I could taste the salty warmth on my tongue. The crash took five seconds but it felt like ten years. This time I heard the words “I’m wrong mom. I’m sorry mom.” In an instant the noise grew so loud it seemed like I was standing in the middle of a nuclear bomb. Not a second later it was silent and the world around me went pitch…

I think to myself, there is nothing to be afraid of, they have no solid evidence and I’ll be alright. Although, when they let me go the other night, I felt a rush of guilt as I left the station. I feel good now, but I know I have to finish what I had started. I packed my bag, printed off the flight ticket and picked up the matches. I stepped out of the door, and had one last peak of my mother’s house, which had been the only place where I was able to be myself. Many memories have been discovered in this comforting home, but I know this is what I have to do. I ignite the match, and place it on the carpet. I continue down the driveway, and as I have one last glance back, I shed a tear as I discover the terrifying roar as the house bursts into flames.…
