Night Narrative

The train ride was jagged, people where silent, laying around me like dead bodies. My daughters fast asleep, the whole world felt as if it was at peace with itself. If only it persisted.

Screams came from the train, “Fire, Fire, Oh Flames…” the lady had lost her mind.

“Mother what is she talking about?” my daughter asked with a frightened face.

“Nothing darlin’ don’t worry about it.” I said.

The young boys in train took her down and started beating her until her cries and shrieks were no more. The train finally stopped.

“Look mom, look.” said Tzipora.

“Fire.” Someone said from somewhere in the back.

God bless our souls I thought to myself, I took the girls hands telling myself to not let go. The soldier separated the boys from the girls. I looked at Eliezer and his father my husband for one last. If only that

Until I realized what was happening. They were going to kill her. My great and beautiful baby they were going to kill her. But she hadn’t even learned how to read or write yet. She hadn't fallen in love yet, I thought to myself. I was lost in thoughts until I heard a loud cry.

“My baby, no!” someone shouted from the line of women.

The officers started beating her and threw her into the fire. Tzipora looked at me and blew a kiss. I caught it and waved to her as they took her into the metal box. A few moments later they brought out her body and there it into the fire. That was the last time I saw her. The officers finally took us back. I told her two older sisters, and that was the last time I thought of her. Until that night it finally hit. She was dead. Something inside of me also died that night. I screamed and I screamed until two men cam into the room and beat me with their truncheons. I screamed and screamed until I saw a light. My sweet Tzipora took my hand and said “Mother I told you I’d be fine. Now look where together again. I missed you a lot.” she hugged me and I finally felt at
