A pregnancy ultrasound (sonography), is an imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create a picture of how a baby is developing in the womb. It is also used to check the female pelvic organs during pregnancy. The ultrasound image is produced based on the reflection of the waves off of the body structures. When preparing for a pregnancy ultrasound, you will need to have a full bladder to get the best ultrasound image, but how do you know how much water to drink before ultrasound?

Do not empty your bladder prior to the procedure. Drinking the fluid prior to the ultrasound will fill the bladder, enabling it and the surrounding internal organs to be examined.
How Much Time Should I Allow For My Ultrasound?
You should arrive for your ultrasound at least 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment. This gives you some time to relax before your ultrasound and complete any patient information forms that are needed. To avoid any stress, you should allow up to 1 ½ hours for your appointment. However, it’s important that you are not pregnant when you have either a sonohysterogram or a HyCoSy, as these tests can disturb the implantation of the
