A New Mexico What is a Drug Cartel? An illicit cartel to control the production and distribution of narcotics drugs to a certain location, (freedictonry.com). Why is this affecting our community? A drug cartel is not just transportation for drugs; it’s also a source for prostitution, which that brings a negative vibe in a community. Also A lot of young men in Mexico joins the cartel due to poorness and resources, like drugs and girls. Till this day Mexico is still in war with the cartels. First of all, Cartels have been around since the 1900’s in Mexico, but over time, the cartels have become more servers due to more corruption in law field in Mexico and more demanding on the narcotics. Research had shown that a drug lord makes a profit ranging from 13.6-49.4 billion annually, (Wikipedia). This shows why young adults rather join the drug organization then get a job because in Mexico the people get pain a minimum $4.60, which in my opinion that is radicalize, I bet that’s why there is a lot of corruption in Mexico, (trip advisor). Also you may make good profit being a drug lord but there is also a bad side to it, research shows an estimate of 120,000 deaths and 27,000 missing in 2013, (Wikipedia). Next, the cartels not just make profit on drugs; but another big profit is prostitution. Research shows that drug cartels make an estimate 10 billion on sexual exploitation and enslavement, (in sight crime). This shows how corrupted Mexico is; one statement I read was “victims are getting younger, according to a coalition of NGOs”, (in sight crime). Wow how can people be so immoral? Don’t they have feelings? I guess not. Another statement I read was “women’s were often tricked into trade or taken by force and one in twenty was murder”, (in sight crime).
