The first type of dystopian control that is evident would be state propaganda. Harrison Bergeron is a great short story that represents and exhibits evidence of a state propaganda. “Diana Moon Glampers loaded the gun again. She aimed it at the musicians and told them they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on” (Vonnegut 1). After this quote, the people watching this on their television were unfazed by this murder, and when they tried to remember what they were sad about later, they simply could not remember. This trait can be seen around America nearly everyday whenever there are killings and murders. People nowadays are used to seeing violence and with the amount that has been seen, people are not even becoming fazed by it now. The Ones who Walk Away from Omelas is a great example of this dystopian trait. In the story, the people who truly see that there is something wrong with Omelas decide to leave. Once they leave the town, they decide upon never returning back. The sad thing is that the people who leave never actually try to do something about the bad characteristics of that town, they just leave without feeling the need to change the society to a better place. “They leave Omelas, they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back (LeGuin 6). This trait can be seen in America every day, and most people even participate in it. People participate in this trait whenever they walk by a homeless or a poor person. They may not necessarily choose to leave their town just because of it, but most people choose to ignore it besides the few people who give them a few dollars for them to purchase basic necessities. “What’s the worst part about being homeless?” Sleppy asked a homeless man on the street. “No one sees me,” was the reply” - Alyssa Figueroa. This is a great example of how people choose not to pay attention to those who are living on the streets and without a home to live in. People have seen so much of it throughout their lifetime that they have mostly stopped caring and giving spare money to other people. Another reason in which people may
