Eagle Scout Journey Essay
My journey to becoming an Eagle Scout Just to confirm what an Eagle Scout is, it is the highest rank a Boy Scout can obtain. But you must reach the rank of Eagle Scout before you turn 18. Getting to the rank of Eagle Scout is not an easy thing to do; it is a journey for everyone who does, and each Eagle Scout will tell you that it is not easy to reach Eagle Scout. When I was five months away from turning 18, I thought I was faced with an impassible wall called Eagle Scout. There are 6 ranks in Boy Scouts. There is Tenderfoot, Second class, First class, Star rank, Life rank, and Eagle scout. As you can imagine the difficulty of obtaining the next rank gets progressively harder. Getting Life rank is pretty hard already, then when I am five months away from turning 18 I kind of froze up, I had a lot of work to do and I pretty much gave up because I didn’t think I could do it. I had school to worry about like my grades. At this point I thought of quitting boy scouts. I had told my dad about my decision and he had said to talk to the scout master. …show more content…
They said that normally if a scout wants to quit they don’t usually put an effort into being an active scout, due to the fact that most of the life rank scouts don’t really care about advancing their scouting career at that point in their scouting career. But they stopped me because they wanted me to get Eagle Scout. So they told me how I could get the rank of Eagle Scout. They also told me how I could speed up the process on getting the rank of Eagle Scout and they said that they would help me in any way they

Perhaps the thing that would make me quit the most was the illness, poor nutrition, and sanitary conditions at Valley Forge. In Document C, ‘The Diary of Dr. Albigence Waldo’, it clearly shows the poor conditions at Valley Forge, including smoke all over the place, barely any food, frostbite, and almost no clothes. Sickness, sanitary conditions, and poor nutrition made many soldiers die. I don't want to be one of them! For every soldier who died in battle, ten died from disease. The only thing to eat was fire, cake, or flour and…

The conditions costed a lot for the army. If I were a soldier in the Continental Army at Valley Forge, I would have quit because of horrible conditions, illness, and the position they are in. To start off, one reason for quitting is the awful conditions. In the diary of Dr. Albigence Waldo, it says, “I am sick - discontented- and out of humor.…

Due to the number of sickness and death in the camp I realize that I need to keep fighting. It is February 1, 1778 and about one-half of Washington’s army are sick (Doc A) During the winter, between 1800 and 2500 have died as a result of illness. (Doc A). Many soldiers also have ripped clothing and no shoes. (Doc 3). I could have reconsidered as to being part of the army because my parents need a lot of help on the burden for the farm and to say the truth the numbers of death are sky high. Also the conditions for the army seem to worsen year by year. Yet I chose to reenlist because helping my team can help me.…

During my junior year the biggest event I had to plan was the social event for the battalion: military ball. The event was one eagerly looked forward to, and rightfully so, as it was always a blast with the cadets and fostered many memories that will last a lifetime. I took planning this event very seriously and in the end many told me that it was the best military ball to date. Several cadets came to me after the formalities had concluded and thanked me for putting in the time and effort to make military ball happen. Seeing their gratitude and smiles on their faces made me feel appreciated and I knew that all the hours I had put in and almost wanting to tear my hair out in frustration had not gone in vain. During my senior year, another crucial event within the program changed. The criteria for our annual inspection had been altered drastically and we had to start from scratch will almost everything. This inspection is what JROTC works toward the entire school year, due to the fact that if a program receives a low score a certain amount of times, then the program can be disbanded. I, along with my staff, worked for months making sure that we had everything we needed and that our presentation was the best it could be. When the day of inspection finally came around, our hard work paid off. The battalion received a perfect score and was officially the best JROTC program in the county. This was the first time since my high school JROTC program’s conception in 2000 that we had received a perfect score on the…

The decision not to reenlist weighed heavy on my mind for about a half a year. I had to determine the issues associated with the decision to leave the military life. This was the life I was custom to for the last 13 years. One issue was the financial part of leaving the military. The next issue was living conditions. One alternative of not getting out would be staying in three more years. Next I would have to evaluate the alternatives for staying in. The result of that would mean a higher possibility of getting deployed. I have two older children who were dependent on themselves and also a seven month old daughter. Even though she would have gone to my mother home, no one takes care of your baby better than you. Once I decided to leave the military, I had to implement my decision. After I left the military, I enrolled in college and volunteered at a hospital. As I was finishing my freshman year at college it came time to evaluate my decision to leave the military. Leaving the military I am a single parent, employed full time, and going to school full time. If I had to do it over again I think I would have stayed in the military and chance the possibility of getting deployed. My decision-making process goes almost hand- in-hand with the stages of the decision making process from the book. By not taking all the alternatives into consideration is the one step that did not consider. One alternative would have been to enlist in the reserves. Still possessing the military in my employment, part- time and going to school would be more effective than giving the military up altogether. I love the military life and I have been affiliated with some form of the military life from my teenage years until my late thirties. If I would have used the same steps from the book I would have stayed in the military. I would have gotten promoted at least twice, traveled to…

It was just a cold normal winter day. But not for me, today was the day I would be organizing people to go around collecting books from my neighborhood and in the end, getting over 3,000 books. I was as excited as a little boy on Christmas. I woke up early to get all the delicious treats ready for the helpers, they would be coming over soon. I was getting nervous. This operation would be happening all from my garage. My fellow boy scouts would come excited and willing to help me out. As soon as people started arriving I maintained a calm state. I tried to stay professional and give them useful tips on how to collect the books. Overall just about 20 people came to help me out in my eagle scout project, which was a lot more than I needed as I…

As soon as I walked in, he ripped my corporal rank of my chest, threw it on the ground, and proceeded to give me the worst ass chewing of my life. I felt less than a man by the time he was done with me. Afterwards, I moped around for a day or two. Dragging my feet and not really caring about anything anymore. I had lost my sniper team, my promotion, and my promotable status. All because I had to go out and think that I was too good to get help from anyone. All the good that I had done up to that point was completely forgotten. I was just another shit bag as far as my Chain of Command was concerned. But then I realized something. All they did was demote me. All they did was take my section. That was it. I wasn’t being kicked out of the army. I wasn’t getting busted down to private. In my mind that said one thing to me, I messed up but they need me. I’m a good soldier. I can come back from this. I spent the rest of the time in the field go out of my way to get things done. I volunteered for every detail no matter how bad it was. I made sure tasks I was given were done fast and to the best of my ability. I was determined to show my Company that I may have messed up but I was willing to do whatever it takes to get back where I was and that I wasn’t going to let a little trouble completely destroy me or keep me from having what I had worked so hard to…

My whole life I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I have recently found out I do not have the stomach for it. Then I wanted to be a physical therapist, but I have now settled on becoming an optometrist. I recently had a shadowing job. I really enjoyed it, and I can see myself doing this and enjoying it. One thing that really appealed to me was the opportunity for mission trips. I have always loved the idea of going on mission trips. I was blessed three years ago to go on a church mission trip. I was to Zacatecas, Mexico. We put on a VBS for the local children of the neighborhood. It was crazy because the VBS was held in a school, but most of it was outside with little shacks as school rooms. The whole school court was totally fenced in by a…

Hanging above my bed in my bedroom is a framed poster that says a quote that I live by: “The Journey is the Reward”. Living by that quote, though difficult, is not impossible. To me, it means that whatever an individual goes through in life, both ups and downs, the experience is what that reward is. To me, setting goals is overrated. If I set a goal, I’m giving that experience an end date. For example, if I wanted to set a goal of wanting to bench press 225 Ibs, and I can only bench press 175 as of now, it seems to me that I am only limiting myself to 225pounds of bench press. Because 9 times out of 10, when a person hits the goal they were striving for, they give up. And more times than none, they become worse off and resort back to the old weight or old habits to which they wanted to improve upon or get rid of. If you say “I’m going to improve my weight for bench press”, and not set a limit for how much you can do, the final amount could be 400 Ibs as far as anybody knows. The more somebody works out, the stronger they get and the more they improve and the limits reach to the sky.…

I believe joining the Army ROTC will help grow me into a stronger leader through the experience, knowledge, and skills I will gain. As an Eagle Scout I have learned some important leadership skills. I believe I can exploit these skills in an Army career as well as build upon them and enhance them through ROTC. I have discovered that experiences and challenges support growth and maturity. Having an ordinary job, unchallenging work, or a mediocre position in life do not appeal to me. I want to have colorful experiences, mentally demanding challenges, and hard work so I can mature into a stronger and wiser leader.…

Sometimes the cost of making people proud can be nerve racking, but it is usually worth it. After two and a half months of planning and three days of beautiful weather, I finished my boy scout Eagle project. It was the biggest project I had ever taken on; by myself I was in charge of getting a hold of permits, donations of food and paint, and organizing volunteers so that the underpass on first avenue north could be repainted. I sat on an old couch in an even older building waiting outside an office filled with a council of people that had the authority to say “this project wasn’t good enough” or “you didn’t show enough leadership”. Needless to say, it was a little intimidating. The environment alone had me stressing. There was a clock above the doors that separated me from the council, and every time I looked at it, I could hear it stealing the precious time I needed to do last minute preparations, click after click after click. My heart was racing as tried to think of everything they could possibly ask in hopes of anticipating what was going to happen. Finally when the man opened the doors and told me that they were ready for me, I thought I was going to faint. I felt like I was a blind man entering a room I have never been in. I did not know what to think. When I got inside it wasn’t what I thought. I had imagined in all my worrying that I was going to be interrogated. I would sit at the end of a long generic table with the only light in the room pointed at me while countless people threw questions at me all at once. I found myself instead in a formal setting. I was asked to sit down, and the questioning began. They didn’t throw the questions at me, but gave them to me one at a time. During the session I realize that I had prepared well. To this day the only thing that made all the stressful anticipation worth it was the day of my award ceremony. All the people that helped me along the way were there to congratulate me. As I stood in front of them I could tell…
