persevere because a college education is important to me. Above all, earning a college degree is important to me because it gives my daughter an academically inclined role model to look up to. Although she is young, she is quite observant and notices everything. I know she is aware of how hard I work to fulfill my dreams and provide a better life for her. There are days when I have to leave home at seven a.m. and I do not get back till eight p.m. Those days are spent taking additional classes in order to upgrade my status. She notices this. She sees that although Mommy is tired and worn, she is still a trooper. I hope this gives her the courage she needs to pursue great things as well.
In addition to being a role model to my daughter, a college education is important to me because my chances of gaining permanent employment will increase. College graduates have a greater chance of getting a job than someone with no post-secondary education. Likewise, having a college education increases one’s chances of moving up the socioeconomic ladder. These factors further contribute to the improvement of the lives of my family members.
Furthermore, earning a college degree will help me achieve my career goal of becoming an Early Childhood Educator. Although I have already earned vocational qualifications, nine years experience in tutoring, engaged in extra-curricular activities, and volunteered at my community’s homework club, a college education will still benefit me greatly. The skills I gain and the knowledge that is imparted to me will help provide a solid foundation in educating my students. As a result of this, I will make a positive impact on the lives of these students.
Ultimately, earning my Bachelor’s Degree and becoming an Early Childhood Educator greatly depends on if I am able to cover my tuition costs or not. If I am able to cover these costs, I will become an academically inclined role model to my daughter, increase my chances of getting a permanent job that will enable me to become financially stable, and obtain my dream job. This is why I would be a good candidate for the Gary Kiesling ACCESS Scholarship.
