Early Settlers In Colonial America

Colonial America Colonial America was difficult early settlers coming for a new life. These settlers were looking for new freedoms in a new land. They faced many hardships during the early years, but through trial and error they finally established a new life. In these colonial times there was a lot of talk about beliefs. The English didn’t want a lot of Christianity in England. So the Christians left England to go to America so they could have their religious beliefs. The Christians didn’t have many religious freedoms in England at the time. Even some of the Roman Catholics came from England to America. When the Roman Catholics came to America they grew bigger and so did the other Christians. The churches would take a long time to build

The people in England didn’t expect to make loads of money and become rich. They came here to make enough money for their own land and themselves and their families. In order to achieve this they had to work really hard. The people from even some people that were very poor and homeless people were kicked off the streets of London and made to go to Virginia in America. Some people couldn’t come to America because the ship ride was too expensive and sometimes only one member of the family could come and the other family members had to stay behind and come later. Many people had to build their own houses which would take a lot of work and a long time. There were many different types of houses built back then but as time passed thee houses became more advanced and looked better. The Quakers and Puritans became friends with the Native Americans. The Native Americans helped the new settlers how to make food. They made lots of corn which helped them have food and not to starve. In 1607 the first colonies was founded. It was Jamestown, Virginia. The founders of Plymouth, Massachusetts were the Pilgrims. They also grew tobacco. It sold for a lot of money. The money helped them to survive and support their families. Unfortunately there were a lot Africans that were enslaved in the early 1700’s. In the 1800’s there were over 3,000 slaves in Virginia. The reason people had slaves is because they did not have enough people to do the work. They made the slaves mine metals and grow and raise crops.
