Earth Is 6 000 Years Old Pros And Cons
In the video entitled, “Earth is 6,000 Years Old”, Chemist John Pendleton describes different viewpoints from a creation and evolutionary standpoint when it comes to how old the earth really is and the supportive material behind their conclusions. These points are based off the bible in regards to Genesis and the creation of the earth, scientific points of view in regards to carbon dating, sedimentary dating, and evolution of mammals and mankind in this progression. The techniques also used in determining this data are described as well as the numerical data and some steps used in this configuration.

The first pro that is seen is that according to Pendleton is from a biblical perspective dating began with the creation of earth in Genesis 1
…show more content…
Third pro is that there is no gaps in between the dates for creation, as seen in Genesis 1 where the earth was created in six days. Fourth the bible itself does not clearly give an exact time frame onto the earth's age for it could be younger or older but using the timeframe that is given and context to support that there are 6 literal days with 24 hour periods in each day can help one conclude a timeframe of support for the age of the earth. Fifth, the bible in regards to creationism holds accounts of positive things or events which could be tested in figuring out the earths age. The pros to evolution according to the video when it comes to dating the earth are that firstly the idea of geological timescale. This is based off prehistoric periods of 190 million years such as measuring the layers of rocks to date the age of the earth for example the Grand Canyon. Since more than 50 percent of the rocks layers are missing from the Grand Canyon this leads to false, accurate dating measurements. Second, the idea of worms evolving into humans. Measuring the evolution from worms to humans gives a chance of happenings since the evolution is not accurately recorded because it is guessed that worms evolved into fish into amphibians into primates into humans on the

The approximate age of the earth is 4,600,000,000 years old. Using scientific notation this number would look like 4.6 * 10^9. Scientific notation is shorter and easier to read than 4,600,000,000.…

Carbon-14 is incorporated in the tissues of plants and animals through their environment. When they die the incorporation of carbon-14 ends, and what remains in the specimen decays at a constant rate, with a half-life of 5730 years. That is, after 5730 years only half of Carbon-14 remains in the sample. (Measuring the ratio between C-14 & C-12 can give us a good idea about when an organism died.) This exponential decay continues and continues; however after about 40 000 years, less than 1% of Carbon-14 remains in the sample, so it is not useful for dating material much older than that.…

While Burnet primarily focused on the linear biblical history of Earth (‘time’s arrow’), it is clear that components of ‘time’s cycle’ are also prominent in his writings and the Bible (Burnet, 1691:13). Though Burnet’s narrative lacked clear empirical evidence—a key criticism that ultimately led to the demise of ‘time’s arrow’— he described "the great circle of time and fate,” where the biblical Paradise would be recovered once again in the future (1987: 27, 46). Despite religion’s role in ‘time’s arrow,’ this linear vision of time was also crucial to scientific progression (1987:11-12). While these metaphors deeply contradict, a clear division between them is lacking and both concepts are needed to thoroughly discuss the development of geological…

Europeans had been digging up strange-looking bones along lakebeds and riverbanks for hundreds of years before the 18th century (Strauss). Many of the finds confused the Europeans since they could not wrap their heads around where the bones were coming from. The intact skeleton of the marine reptile, Mosasaurus, was incredibly important as naturalist Georges Cuvier identified it as belonging to an extinct species (Strauss). From this point on, rational scientists realized they were dealing with creatures that lived and died millions of years before humans appeared on earth (Strauss). This lead to many scientists trying to answer questions about these ancient creatures, especially when they actually lived. Even still, less open-minded people stuck to a strict creationist viewpoint. Although there have been many fossil finds that would contradict what the Bible says about when they lived, God has already answered the questions for us with His word directly.…

An argument to say that evolution and the Big Bang did not occur include, God creating the universe with seven days. In the book of Genesis nothing about an explosion was mentioned and everything was made by God. Many strong Christians chose to take this belief, ruling out any theory of the big bang and everything was created by God. An opposing belief is that the book of Genesis should not be interpreted literally. For example, how could the first two days of creation take place if there was no night and no day?…

In the article, “Reading Between the Fossil Lines,” by Gleason L. Archer (reasons.org, 1 October, 2001), the author states that one of the biggest arguments against the literal validity of Genisis 1 comes from the evidence of the age of fossils and minerals as studied and proven in geology. Fossils are preserved remains of plants, animals and organisms that existed in the past. Paleontologists have recorded significant amounts of data to support that fossils are tangible proof of an earth that has been around longer than 10,000 years. In Progressive Creationism, there is room for rhetoric, allegory, metaphor and hyperbole in interpretations of the Scripture. Fossils’ strong scientific evidence defines an existence of…

    Four Geological Eras

However, in 1913 the first geologic time scale was presented by Arthur Holmes; this was deciphered after the discovery of radioactivity by Henri Becquerel in 1896. Holmes used radioactivity to deduce that the Precambrian Era was between 4.6 billion-544 million years ago; the first milestone is the formation of Earth, and the second milestone is the beginning of life. As science and technology progresses scientists have a more exact date, which is, that the Earth is 4.543 billion years old. Scientists formulated the Precambrian era by practicing radioactive dating: knowing the number of radioactive parent atoms present when a rock formed and the number present now. The number of parent atoms initially present is the number present now plus the number of daughter atoms formed by the decay, both of which are amounts that can be measured. Moreover, another method that was used to determine when Earth formed was by reporting the proportion of lead types located in meteorites and comparing them to lead proportions located in other rocks on the Earth and other meteorites. Clearly, using radioactive dating and the comparison of rocks was essential factors in answering the questions on Earth's…

Man originates from Adam and Eve and animals were created by God during the creation week. My neighbor on the other hand believes that we did in fact evolve from apes. Because my neighbor does not believe in God I think it is important to first share the evidences for God such as order, harmony, and complexity. The presence of a conscience also indicates a creator God. Humans were created in the image of God not animal. The evolution model predicts a common ancestor of man and apes. Genesis 3:20 indicates that Eve is the mother of all the living. Humans and chimps have differing chromosome counts, we can also consider the difference in jaws between human and ape. The skull of the ape differs from man there is the quadruped and the biped skull. There are also major skeletal differences indicated by their walking styles. There was a scientific claim about our oldest ancestor reported to have dated 6-7 million years, a few years later scientists dispute the…

The geological record does not support Darwin’s theory because there are no intermediate species found in fossils and sometimes groups display abrupt modifications. However, this can be the result of changes in the earth’s surface, unfitting conditions for fossil formation, the destruction of existing fossils, and the lack of discovery of fossils. Darwin uses these possibilities to argue against the naturalists, saying that there is not enough knowledge about the history of earth to draw conclusions on…

Scientist have now concluded that there were indeed two Grand Canyon sections, an east and a west. They have also discovered that the west section of the canyon is as old as seventy million years old! That is sixty million years older than the previous age estimate. What puzzles scientist more is that these new discoveries have revealed that as much as seventy percent of the west section of the canyon was not caused by the Colorado river! Seventy percent of the western segment of the canyon was found to predate the formation of the Colorado river by several years.…

According to Sid Perkins, an earth science writer, the canyons deepest parts are 1.7 billion years old and the Canyon its self only40 million years old. The canyon shows off many layers of limestone that each have a unique story, “Thick bands of limestone speak of lengthy eras spent beneath broad, shallow seas or still, clear lakes. Beds of lava and ash recount episodes of widespread volcanic activity.Other layers of rock show that this grand swath of real estate has also been home to coastal mudflats and windblown sands (Perkins, “Making”)”. These layers can be measured and told apart by mammillaris, which are lumps of carbonate minerals. These lumps mark the level of the local water table (Perkins, “Parts”). Another piece of data that may help us determine when the canyon began to form is locked in a layer of limestone filled with algae and sediments that thrive in only fresh water lakes. This ‘Muddy Creek Formation’ has been aged with radioactive dating, which puts it between 6 and 11 million years old. This theory that the river could not have been carving the canyon while a lake was present was presented by Richard Young a geologist at the State University of New York (Perkins,…
